What are the chances of changing jobs here in Korea?
I don't hate my current gig, the school really likes me, but an opportunity that I am unable to pass up has come to my attention. I've only been here two months and I know that I would need to give notice and get a letter of release, but I'm wondering, how hard is this? Is it even worth bothering? Is this the impossible dream? Has anyone done this before? Advice?
Thanks! |

Are you at a hogwan? I don't know why but do they ever tend to hate those letters of release. You could try, but I'm pretty sure they won't be happy about it. If you're serious you might have to get nasty, as well. |

I don't know. It could cost them a lot of money.
If it's a good enough job then you should offer some compensation to them. Write it off. Maybe even a month's pay. Split amicably. Korean is give and take. Discuss it with your boss. Some bosses might be too proud about the money thing. Or act like they are. But it is about the money. For sure.
Again, if it's a good job, it might be worth giving up some Won. Probably would offend your boss though.
If you're young then you could communicate with this other school and discuss about attaining employment there next year. |

You've been there only two months?
Well, you are under contract.
Give notice AND offer to pay back the airfare cost and half of the recruiter's fee (about 500,000 won on your end) to be fair.
Otherwise even if I were a hagwon owner I wouldn't likely agree to it. |
