Bless your heart - there really aren't that many people who want to teach that age group. There are plenty of positions teaching kindie and preschool. Keep checking the job boards and you'll see for yourself. You could put yourself at a real advantage because those positions have a harder time getting applicants than any others. Good luck!

She's not insane- I too far prefer kindy here, much older than that and all the fun in teaching is gone here. Middle school students and older have no energy or creativity, they're mostly just drones there to get into SNU.

As far as avail. of Kindy jobs, its kind of low if thats all you want. Most K jobs are mixed with lower primary ages. That, however, isn't hard to find.

I teach Kindy but 3 to 5!!!! More like Korean ages 4 to 7. What you're looking for is called a ġ.

The parents pay from 350 to 500 thousand a month and expect something for it. That said make sure that all the classes have a Ӽ, like a homeroom teacher, to deal with parents and administration especially if you're new to Korea.

My situation is different in that I am the home room teacher for the seven year olds and do 'guest appearances' in the 4,5 and 6 year old classes. I clean the room , give lunch, check their attendance books, organise milks, bathroom runs and accompany them on field trips, the whole deal, from 9:00 until 4:00.

Anyway, tell a recriuter or whoever you're looking for a real ġ.

Your question is about general availability (which I cant answer) but if youre looking for one job opening soon & youre not set on Seoul, this was advertised recently on Daves job board: http://www.eslcafe.com/jobs/korea/index.cgi?read=17869
I can vouch for it being an honest & well-run operation. I worked for the same owners a while back & the people I know working there now are a good bunch.

Just when I thought I had heard it all on Dave's.

Somebody comes out with this. Don't get me wrong,Tiny Tibo, but I would be outa here so fast if I ever had to teach more than one kindy class again. Heck, even one wold be too much for me.

Gawd... how do you do it. I hate that crying for no reason, hiding under the table ect... And you want to do this all day. You should just get married and have like ten kids. Move to Utah and find a good solid Mormon fellow.

Holy crap.... I'll stop now.

Sorry, just a little unbeleivable.

As a MALE kindy teacher, what do I get to do? Uhh, don't answer that. As far as the crying for no reason, hiding under the table thing- I actually don't see that in kindy so much. I mostly see that in primary school kids. In fact, I see the best behaviour in the kindergarten, and the worst in middle school. As for high school, I can't do it- too goddamn boring.

Hello, Tiny Tibbo!

I've been on my present job for a couple of weeks now. I just totalled my hours up and found that I work 30 hours a week in the kindergarten and 10 hours a week with elementary students. And I'm loving it!

In reply to your question, I almost got an interview with an all-kindergarten school, but the director chickened out and stopped answering my mail. She wouldn't say why.

Another all-kindergarten school was very much interested in hiring me, but I lost interest when they asked me to shave off my beard.

There was still a third all-kindergarten program that was about to hire me,
and the offer seemed very attractive to me. But that was so long ago I forgot why it didn't materialize.

From what I have seen, there are few all-kindergarten openings, but even fewer applicants for those openings. As long as there is a scarcity of eccentrics like Tiny Tibbo, Demonicat, and Tomato, we will be in high demand.

By the way, are you a boy or a girl? The other participants in this thread seem to assume that you are a girl, but the O at the end of your name made me think you're a boy.

Hello, Evil Penguin!

No, I'm not insane--at least, I don't think, but one more job teaching middle school would drive me insane.

Different strokes for different folks, I guess.

Bloody unbelievable what appeals to different people, isn't it? If it were a choice between doing HS for 1.5 or kindy for 3.0 I still wouldn't even consider kindy for a nanosecond even if they came dressed in straightjackets. Having to be in shops and buses and subways with little Korean kids now and then is awful enough.

Hello Tomato,

Thanks for the info. I just wanted to know how hard it would be to get another job with babies if i didn't continue with my current school and came back to Korea after a break. I look forward to new munchkins my second time around......

Yes, I'm female......interesting observation about the "o".....

When my contract runs out where I am now (not till Spring of 2007), I will probably try to find a full-time kindy job. The kindy kids are my favorite. I wish that my current school would switch to full-time kindy. As it is, I only teach kindy from 9:45 to 1:00. That's one class. I'd like to keep my two hour break and then do another kindy class. But, out of five foreigners here, three also want that and I'm at the bottom of the seniority pole, so even if it became an option, I'd be the last one they'd offer it to. Crying or Very sad

I prefer to teach people not overrun with hormones. I think that those who do also take secret pleasure in causing themselves pain by bashing their heads against concrete walls. Laughing
