I've been here about half a week already, and I have had not even one unaccosted offer for jewellery, silk, a ladyboy, massage, or turkish bath!!
All kinds of new buildings seem to be going up everywhere. It looks to me like the writing is on the wall that in a few years the seedier side of Bangkok will be a memory.
Or is it just the time of the year?? |

Hot and steamy. Rainy season hasn't quite finished yet. Believe me, I'm happy. |

you forgot about the lady massage
Well in about 2.5 weeks I should be enroute for about a month. Forget Bangkok though; I will be hitting the beaches down south. Hopefull most of the rain will be done. Hope to get a few types of diving in and hit one of the gyms on a regular basis. Can't wait for the 100baht poolside breakfast buffet and the 100baht alll you can eat salad bar at Sizzlers. Og course, I will eat lots of Thai food as well. Will probably get my body pampered with a few Traditional Thai massages. Oh yes, while laying on the beach drinking a Singha, she can massage my feet and clip my nails.
I have a few good books that I am saving for the experience. Well I had better quit thinking aout it-still have to wait 2.5 weeks and that seems like a long time right now. |

Honestly, Bangkok doesn't feel that wild anymore. Under the new laws, the bars close at 1am and from what I see, it seems to be quite strictly enforced. This new social order under the "Thai love Thai" party combined with a large growing middle-class makes me wonder if Bangkok will be going the way of Singapore in the future. |

the 1am drinking thing has been in effect for years!
you want some excitment.. go to Pattaya if your looking for the wildnight life.. if you're in bangers.. head over to PATPONG..
but yeah bangkok is not what it once was I guess during the 60-70-80 90's as has many places in the world. times were different back then.,
but now with so many government officals getting into office and bored all day. they decide to come up with stupid laws, probably because they were the ones who never partied back in the day.. so they dont see the point of letting it continue in a party fashion.. but just let it continue for ecomonic reasons.. its not only bangkok anymore.. its many countries!
but you can still have a goodtime in bangkok. hook up with some people and go check out some things.. everything is still there.. |

Hey bosintang,
Where's this leading to? A new job somewhere?
Seems like Laos might be nice for a visit. |

You would have thought that Thailand lost its seedy appeal a little when it was revealed 40% of available women there were HIV+. |

Indeed. It's still a great city, and with the new skytrain and MRT, the city is starting to become very liveable. If I could save anything near what I saved in Korea and still live a comfortable lifestyle, I would stay here in a heartbeat.

Man, good timing, I'm actually taking a night-train to Vientiane tonight. I'll linger in Laos for a few days and then pass through Vietnam and maybe Cambodia if i have time and space left in my passport.
I'll be back in Korea for a wintercamp though in January -- I shudder at the thought of a Korean January after here. |

When I was in Bangkok, in the Siam Square area, in August, I was amazed at the yuppification going on. No beggars, no litter, and, on that little street with the Reno Hotel, no food vendors!
That area is starting to feel like Seattle. Well, almost. |
