What I'll miss about Vancouver when I leave:

-Blarney Stone/Irish Heather/Shebeen Whisky House (all within one block of each other)
-massive variety of international cuisine (especially Indian food, and the Japanese restaurant Raku)
-outstanding multicultural diversity
-lack of pollution
-all the huge beaches that aren't crowded like sardines (i.e. Haeundae)
-cozy rep/art house cinemas, and vids to rent from all over the world
-Grouse Grind

...and most of all...

-watching the local football (soccer) club at an intimate stadium (Swangard Stadium in Burnaby allows you to get right behind the goalkeeper and hurl abuse, capacity 7,100; versus the new Busan Asiad Stadium, with a track separating the pitch and the fans, and capacity 50,000+)

I miss a ton of things from home...things that you take for granted. I miss the large streets, being able to hike and camp and get away from all of the rigamarole. I miss being able to get in my car and crusing the interstate. I miss being able to go to "real" clubs and not being stared at every single time I walk down the street. I miss being able to take a bath every night instead of the dual bathrooms here in which the entire floor gets wet.

I miss many foods. I miss the 4-cheese and Mexican style Red Baron's pizzas. Had them every week for 6 months before I came to Korea and I truly miss them. You can actually acquire a fair deal of imports in Korea, so it is tolerable. I got some Tostitos Salsa Con Queso last week and I was stoked. Doritos, Pop Tarts, Cinnamon Toast Crunch...you can get that here. I just miss the pizzas the most.

But absence does make the heart grow fonder and I will have one helluva feast when my contract is finished and I head back home. Razz

Friends and Family (These are really the only two but there are a couple of extras)
-GOOD Coffee (Not Starbucks real expressssssooooo from an Italian supermarket at Monarch Park and Danforth)

-Amazing, plentiful, and dirt cheap WEED (I am not going to tiptoe around the issue, and yes the weed is great in BC but it is to be had in Toronto as well).

-The Only Cafe (I like Betty's as well but the Only is the best dive in the city.It is the hole with soul).

-Great used book stores.

-The Saturday globe in my greasy, shaking, hungover hands.

-Variety (Everthing to do with it...I miss riding on a subway where I can notice people from all over the world, different languages, different newspapers, different ways of dealing with it all)...

-Relatively clean air (at least it being an hour or two away)

-Variety of BEER (paying upwards of ten bones for a Guinness chaps my ass). In my opinion Hite prime is no different from your usual Hite. The kinda beer I'm talking about:
-Scniederweisse
-Duvel
-Chimay
-Anchor Steam
-Tusker
-Dragonsbreath
-Dab
-Big Rock Traditional Ale
-Creemore
-Harp

Sorry I have a problem.....A note to Harpeau though I found a place in Namdemoon where you can buy a bottle of Jamesons pretty cheap...All I can really remember is that it was underground close to where all the guys sell the military paraphenalia....

Sure,I miss the mountains,trees,and wildlife from my small hometown,but they don't,and never will,pay the bills. I also miss the variety of yogurts. In Korea,only blueberry and strawberry yogurt can be found.

I know that I missed good cheese, frozen dinners, milk that didn't go bad (or just get weird) after three days, turkey sandwiches, wheat bread, and good Italian and good Mexican food. (I **did** live in a small Korean city...cut me some slack.) Very Happy

I didn't just miss food though...I missed having a dryer, watching TV shows like Law and Order and The West Wing, and since Mokpo had no trees, not like in the Northeast anyways, I missed watching the leaves turn in the fall.
Living in the L.A. area for the time being now, one thing I do miss about Korea is its public transit system. And also, as I haven't worked since the beginning of January (soon to change when I leave for Gwangju in 2 weeks), I really miss working and having something to do.

Motts Clamato juice... man, I could drink a litre of that stuff straight no problem... add vodka and it's even better. They used to have it with caesars here at Beavers Wing's in Hongdae, but unfortunately that place has long closed down.

Chi-chi....if you consider Reb Lobster to be quality sea food...then...ahh nevermind its hopeless... Smile
