Will you see "Jarhead"? |
Yes, as a former professional military imperialist pawn I like to be given reflections on past glories I can relate to. |

No, war movies are sad depressing and negative glorifications of hideous violence vilely and insanely perpetrated upon one thinking human by another. |

Yes, I love a 'historical' war movie. |

Yet another Movie as "The Three Kings", and "Blackhawk Down" that I did not watch because I feared I'd get Flashbacks and start Pieing Off windows and calculating who to fire on first everytime I entered a building again... No, no, err not quite mmmm I mean actually I did not see "Blackhawk Down" or 'Three Kings" because I'm not sure if they had a happy ending. As a romantic, I must have a happy ending. Buy I think I will be forced to see "Jarhead" because it will no doubt stick in the minds of Civi types and I need to know how civi types are going to stereotype me... Hmmm beside it does look pretty Moto and I do so miss Kuwait and the Persian Gulf- all those live rounds and high explosive rounds - not all the crap rounds I got issued to train with in Cali.
I end up seeing a lot of mushy romantic movies with Korean Lasses although I did get a free ticket to go see "Mr. and Mrs. Smith" with a 26-year old Golf Caddy Rich Girl. Mmm don't ask me how she was so rich with that job- might have had something to do with her dad... Too bad she went to England to learn Englisheee.
Opps just checked the sight myself it's been out since November in the states- maybe I missed it...I am sooo behind on the mass media!
What do you think will you all see it? Or do war movies make you sick? |

I'll definitely see it. Maybe not at the theater 'cause I always doze off.
I was there. My track was in convoy on a low-boy when we heard about
the cease-fire on BBC. I remember thinking, "They can't do this! I haven't
killed anyone yet!" But the nastiness seen there eventually made me almost
a pacifist.
I feel for the fighting men and women there now, and their families. |

Saw it already. I would give it a 5 out of 10.
It seemed to me to lack a decisive moment.
No climax. It was like a porno without the
money shot at the end.
It is everywhere on torrent sites. |

There's already a thread on Lord of War.
I would rate it as 'so-so' or 'mediocre'- worth seeing if you absolutely just want to get out into the theatre this Fall and see something that doesn't completely suck as bad as Doom.
I passed on Jarhead in spite of initially looking forward to it (the cinematography looked amazing and and being a fan of Mendes and Gyllenhall (Donnie Darko) and Foxx), mostly because I realized after reading the inital reviews on Metacritic that- while I could admire it for what it essentailly is (a beautiful 'non-movie')- my s.o. would never sit through it all. Especially after having already dragged her to see Lord of War.
I'd vote 'no' in the poll except that none of the options really fits with my reason, which happens to be a pretty standard one for deciding whether or not to see a movie in a theatre: I'm going to wait for the DVD. |

On the plus side, I'm in the queue to get the book on which it's based from the library.
I'd never heard of it before hearing about the movie, and by all (serious) accounts it's a great book.
(If you want to know why i put in the qualifier you can look at the Amazon reader reviews- some "I.D. Ten T" types are posting movie reviews in there, and other idiots equate praising the book to being tantamount to working for Al Qaeda).
Has anyone here read it? |

I saw it here in the States. Very good movie, totally nonpolitical. It's true that he never sees any combat, so you could see that as a disappointment, I guess. |

No, it was dissapointing because they cut out the good stuff in the porno film when they were in Iraq, not because there weren't any good combat scenes. |

I read it. It was pretty good. Nothing mind-blowing or amazing, but it was worth reading. |
