've never worked on Jeju but I did go on a short holiday there.
Jeju city seemed pretty crap to be honest, I much preferred the vibe elsewhere on the island. I really like Seogwipo on the south side of the island. Saying that Jeju is a pretty small island with little traffic so it is easy to get anywhere on the island in a pretty quick time.
Jeju people seem really chilled out compared to Seoul and most people I met there were very friendly. If it wasn't for my gf I'd be quite happy to work on the island. There isn't a great deal of nightlife from what I saw but it was very pretty and has a generally better climate from what I've heard than most of the rest of Korea. The interior of the island looks really pretty.
I suppose the best person to ask would be 'the great toad', an interesting character who frequents these boards and lives there. I liked Jeju island, I've been to nicer places but it's pretty and the air is nice and clean compared to Seoul. |

Jeju is a good choice if you are the right type of person. If you want to go out drinking every night at a different place, meet all kinds of loose women, go clubbing til 7 AM, don't come here. Jeju is a great place for the more relaxed people who enjoy the outdoors and a more peaceful life.
I've been here for just under 2 years and I love it. Having said that, I am planning to leave because after a couple of years, you get to the point where you've done everything, seen everything, and it can get a bit boring.
Yes, the climate is much better down here. It's cooler in the summer, warmer in the winter, and not as much snow, rain, or other crap falling from the sky. The beaches are nice in the summer, but not nearly as crowded as those on the mainland (except Jungmun).
What school is it you're looking at? Perhaps I know of them and could ask around?
If you have any other questions, just ask and I'll do my best to help you.

| Keep in mind that being on an island does somewhat restrict your domestic travel. |

I have been living in Jeju for 3 years now. Right, it does get boring after you seen all the tourist sites. I suggest to pace yourself.
The Hagwogs here are very shady. Even more so than on the mainland. You should really talk to the foreign teachers before signing.
A motorcycle or even a scooter is a must. From what I hear the bus system is not to great.
Do you have any specific questions?
Great Toad where are you? Share your thoughts.

Below is the link to Jeju teacher info... Very good site don't spam them or they will come back and get me as Jeju is a 80-200ish Foreigner population and they all know each other- The fat guy you insult on the bus in Seogwipo could end up being your best friends old buddy you are embarrassed to meet at a bar. Now in Seoul you can just mess about anyone and probably never see them again...

There is a problem with public nudity in Jeju .......

If you like Korean Bars or Clubs there are plenty around Jeju City Hall...
I like to swim and bike so I enjoy it here.
However, perhaps there are less English speakers here than ahhhh the Black Soul (crazy song).
Ummm I fear I have been hurt and hurt myself here too much and so the streets and fields may suffer when my Ichor seeps into them. But I have not crashed my bicycles lately or smashed my body against the rocks swimming whenever typhoons come here so mayhap the Isle will not rebel and reject life. You could be the Sam who takes the Magic soil and seed from the Elves and spreads it over Jeju... Then the Land might prosper anon. |

I went on a 5 day vacation to Jeju Island a couple years ago. It was great, for 5 days but I have a feeling it would have made me crazy to live there for a year or two. That said, it you got into scuba diving or biking or hiking Halla then it would be a good time. It definitely has clean air and the outdoorsy feel to it.
There's not much for nightlife, little in the way of English bookstores, Western restaurants, etc, etc. |

| Living in Jeju is also a great idea if your interested in more of a full-on immersion expereince in Korean language and culture. |

7 years and counting...it's a nice place.
The biggest drawback for me, as another poster talked about, is the added expense in getting to Seoul/the mainland before you can travel anywhere else. |
