It didn't give me what i was looking for, but I'm onto something similar which is...  great. I love it.
You pick a song or artist and the engine seeks out out like music. It starts with your song or one close to it and starts a perpetual list of songs like a radio station that just plays your selected style of music. Good form, Metsuke. |

My favorite stations so far...
1) Talib Kweli... good for new hip hop...
2) A Tribe Called Quest... give you all your old school joints and jams...
3) The Roots... more live instrumental type hip hop...
The site is pure magic... and the audio quality is great... |

What I've always wanted, not some crude classification into genres but an analytical look at musical elements to help find other tunes one would like.
I started with Daniel Bedingfield went through Dido and some others I've known and came across a gem I'd never heard of before: Honey, by Moby.
Not all "stations" are good fits. I like Celine Dion, so started there, and also Jewel, but after that, the next dozen selections in the chain were NOT of any interest to me (Cher? Gwen Stefani? Streisand? no thanks).
The best part is you could just let it play: I have company over, and the tailored "station" just plays on. (Does it end? I haven't had it on long enough to know.) |

They're partnered with Amazon and Apple -- and, I assume -- the music industry. It's a nice tool, like a listening booth in your living room, but if you sign up and don't subscribe the ads are going to come soon. Check the FAQ.
Still, it's free, so I can't complain. But make no mistake: it's a creative move by the music industry to (ultimately, hopefully) get you to shell out dollars for music, instead of downloading it illegally.
PS - the reason there's no classical music could be because it's not copyrighted, and therefore unprofitable. Or because there are probably 2 million versions of, say, Beethoven's 5th. It's probably a mix of the two.
