Browsing through the Korea Jobs Forum, I see one hakwon is offering the use of a motorbike, along with the other "inducements".They also say "If you want to work with honest people and also you are not using dirty tricks( Rolling Eyes ), the job is yours". How could you possibly refuse? AND the use of a motorbike. Laughing

The list of things I fear is very short.

Riding a motorbike in Korea is on it.

i would not ride a motorbike here, either,Newfie. It is dangerous enough just trying to cross the street. Some Korean drivers seem to take pedestrians as a personal insult.Another thing that I fear and will never do:
1.Working at a hakwon.

I had to blink twice that it was for Korea because that's usually the "bonus" offered in Taiwan. Come to think of it- I've rarely seen any foreigner fly around the corner on a motorbike in Korea- there must be a reason for that- Laughing . I do remember one gal having her scooter stolen in Jeju. I guess she lost her "bonus."

They're noobs. It's a problem waiting to happen. I'm wondering if these guys have a great medical plan for the teachers, or if they have some shitty clause in their contract which relingishes them of all responsiblity when you hit a car or a drunk korean clips you. Sounds really messy to me.

If they throw in a "free kimbap" clause, I'll be straight on the M.F.

Ok, time to fess up I guess. I'm the current teacher at the place that is offering a motorbike as one of its "perks." My contract ends next month so they are looking for a replacement for me.

The reason for the motorbike is not so hard to figure out. The housing for this job is a bit far from the academy, hence the motorbike to help with transportation. Truthfully it was kind of a pain in the winter but these days I'm having a blast. I've taken it on a couple of road trips around Korea, even went to the coast a few weeks ago. The bike isn't a hog or anything, but it's decent. Also, since this is a smaller city (Gimcheon, near Gumi and Daegu), it isn't too terrible safety wise. I only almost get killed two or three times a day. Wink

Actually, it's a pretty ok job. No problems with pay or anything, the director is trustworthy, they listen to me and try to help when I have problems with students, or the schedule or whatever. I better stop there, if I say anymore it will sound like I'm shilling for the boss, which I'm really not. It's just that I don't get to be the expert that often, so now was my chance. Smile

At the very least, riding a motorcycle in Korea helps one to remember to live everyday as if it were you last, because in this case it really could be.
