|
|
I just arrived in Korea and was hoping to find work here as an English teacher. Apparently the problem is, as I was told, that private language schools only hire native speakers (I am German).
When I received a TEFL-certificate in Germany my teachers and Via Lingua told me that I should be fine getting a job here. Differnt to what I was told here so far, even the Korean embassy in Germany did not mention anything about special visa regulations for native English-speaking people.
I would really appreciate, if someone could give me an update on the working conditions for non-native speakers in Korea. |

To my knowledge, you could have problems once you show your (German) passport photo page to any prospective Korean employer....E-2 work visas are generally only awarded by Korean immigration to people carrying passports from English-speaking countries. |

If I understand things, the rules restrict English teaching to natives of specifically English-speaking countries.
However, have you considered teaching German? Quite a few Koreans go to Germany to study. You might try contacting your embassy for a list of universities which offer German language courses. |

You won't be able to legally teach English in Korea though you might have some luck getting a position as a German language teacher.
Sorry. |

There may be many universities outside of seoul who need a German teacher. There could be a lot of possible jobs we don't see. Also a lot of companies deal with Germany. I would try that approach. |

I just saw an ad, I believe in the Korean Herald, a few days ago or last week looking for a German teacher. Go to their website and look through their classifieds section.
