I'm trying to find the best alternative to using cell phones in Korea. If you have your own phone from your home country, could you get cheaper rates in Korea? I guess this depends on the megahertz or whatever, whether or not you can even use it. But I have a cp, and wonder if there's some way to bypass the expensive rates back home here by latching on to Korea's cheaper system.

Or should I just chuck my cp and get another in Korea? This seems to be a pain. Any suggestions or wise experience to offer? The companies back in the states are ripping people off big time.

Your phone (called handphone here) will be useless in Korea. You'll be best to make a Korean friend who will co-sign for a cheap handphone package when you get over here, or perhaps see if your Korean employer will do it for you.

By the way, at first I thought this thread was about Canadian Pacific.

Your phone will almost certainly be totally useless in Korea. A few models, mostly Motorolas I think, can work in both countries.

Foreign phones won't work here, but you don't need to ask a Korean to sign up for service with local company.
