I just went to a place called "Beak Du Oriental Clinic" or ǿ in Bogwang dong, which is about 10 minutes away from Itaewon on foot.
Just hop on Bus number 13 or 15 and get off at the second to the last stop on the line.
There is a lovely doctor's assistant who speaks near flawless English |

I paid about 6,000 won per visit and it depends on the ailment that you are suffering from that determines the kind of treatment and the amount you pay.
And as for weightloss~~ I think they do something for weightloss, but you would have to consult with them first. |

| A friend of mine visits an acupuncturist not regularly but also in the Seoul area and was asked to be in a TV documentary program about her Clinic. When she arrived she was told by her Doctor that she would be speaking to the TV reporters about how the acupuncture had really helped her menstrual cycle which she suffered extreme pain from and would make her cycle more regular. This was not true of course. To help her Doctor out she told her story to the TV people, laid on the table while the Doctor demonstrated the acupuncture treatment, and then gave a closing speech that was supposed to have been taken some time after the treatment in which she reported that her cycle was much more regular now and she felt much better. In short, most people don't believe everything they see on TV but you can never really be sure unless you speak to someone who was on such a program who says it really doesn't work, or didn't happen. I'm not sure if the comment someone made about losing weight through acupuncture was serious or not, but acupuncture will probably help as much as it does any other problem you may have. Why not? Afterall they're sticking little needles in you all over your body, why wouldn't that work. |

| Meh, I'm in it for the story and I don't think they do general health treatments at these places. As for the validity of acupuncture, well why not? I mean if mold can treat countless ailments, and a metal can cure mental issues (penicillin and lithium), well why not needles? Why not try it out instead of scoffing? |

I had a severe stomach problem about 3 years ago. I went to a doctor for it and he found that a section of my digestive tract was blocked. I asked if anything could be done and he said that surgery was too risky in Korea (GEE!!~! I wonder why?~! )
Anyway, a friend of mine recommended acupuncture to try to relieve the pressure on the blockage.
I went there 3 times a week for one month, I also had to take that god-awful tasting medicine too.
Sure enough~ after the month's treatment, I was better.
I am trying to get my mother to come here to try it because she has a terrible hip problem and the doctors in the US refuse to do anything for it and acupuncture is exorbitantly expensive there.
As the last poster said; don't knock it until you try it~! |

| I know people who have tried it, and they say it doesn't really do anything. I guess it doesn't matter to you either that they just pay people to say it works. Sure the same is true of commercials, but they were actually passing this off as a real documentary on the validity of acupuncture. It is more than likely just a placebo. |

The difference is studies have been done on the above and they've shown to work more effectively than placebos. No studies have shown that for acupuncture. Your reasoning could equally mean the moon is made of cheese if you dig deep enough. How do you know unless you dig all the way to the center. |

Five fingers full of needles: ħ ("Su-ji-chim" - Korean Hand Acupuncture)
My wife studied this for quite a while - until she got a license to open a clinic, in fact. As could be expected, I was the guinea pig on more than one occasion...
Despite being a skeptic, I have to say that I felt better after I had it done for conjunctivitis.
Who knows? Anyway, it is so cheap here - why not try it out? If nothing else, it's at least an interesting story for the folks back home. |

| You are in the perfect position to perform some kind of test. Many acupunturists refuse to have any kind of test done that could rule out placebo. You just have to ask your wife to put the needles in random positions that are suppose to have no effect on the illness some day when you have one, but she won't let you know until afterwards if they were placed in the real spots or not. Later tell her how you feel, better or not, and she'll tell you if the needles were placed in the correct or random positions. Do that several times for a more accurate result and too rule out chance. That's being skeptical. |
