well my old school is looking for some new teachers and i think it's only fair that i let people know what their getting into.. i'll keep this short and sweet;

Resisdence style accomodations (you live in the school) with the following rules!

No koreans aloud! (this was the big one, and it's not even worth getting into the reasons for why they have the rule)
No guests during working hours or after 12pm
All guests must present alien resident card.
(even my co teacher who didn't happen to live at the school because he was married was not aloud coming up to OUR apt.)
Security guard must be present to open the door to get in, and sometimes it can be a bit of a hassle waking him up at 3am or if he is there at all.

Over charged for gas during winter by at least 1mil won.. we received 250,000 in compensation.

Charged 5% in tax off every check. No surprise that when we collected our taxe rebate we discovered they only report 3% to the gov't.

I could go on and on about the other problems we had involving plane tickets, vacations, etc. but i've put enough time into talking about this school.. i can say however that they did always pay on time and i didn't mind the teachers.. the main draw back, aside from the taxes, was the fact you have to live in the school..

so there you have it! draw your own conclusions; i personally think it's crap...

lates.

No wonder I've never seen any foreigners going into or coming out of that school... This is the big one on the hill, on the bus that goes to Doo-Am Town, right?

There are 2 in Gwangju

There is one in Duam and one in Hakdong.

Don't be fooled though, they are both the same.

Run by a father and son.

That tax thing is right; they take almost an extra 2% of your salary for 'accouting purposes.' When I suggested doing my own taxes the boss gave me an ultimatum; take this system or take a hike. During that meeting my boss also let me know how much he dislikes foreigners. They give him the biggest headache. Poor guy... .

The no foreigners/Koreans allowed in the building is completely ridiculous.
They only let me have guests in from midnight-6am. Think about that. Not being able to bring your friend over to watch a movie or dinner. It's not like our guests will steal the infamous 'school secrets.' Everything in the schools are locked, except for the teacher's apartments.

Cant you just sneak them in? No. The guard is posted outside our school/apartment, ready to tell the fearless leader about the heathen foreigners.

This is the kind of school that gets your hopes up by saying you have a holiday, but then make you come in Saturday to make it up.

I think of the 6 Korean teachers that were teaching at my school, only 2 were still there after one year.

In the end Id say I feel jaded. Both by Kims School, and People Recruit for messing up and bringing us there. Lastly, try not to live in a school apartment. Especially, if it's in the school.

Is there anyone else that has had a bad situation within a previous school, that holds a grudge against the recruiter that brought them there? Is it justifiable to do so?

Besides these troubles, I had a great time in Korea: I loved teaching, meeting new people, and even developed a taste for kimchi.

in defence of people recruit they did all they could for us, and as much as can be expected from any recruiter. I mean lets face it, even the laws in korea do very little if anything to protect us so how can we expect a recruiter to make waves?

to clear things up, me and nate.mk worked at the same school and he takes a different opinion on this subject, which is his choice. But i've met the girls from people recruit and they're awesome to say the least and i wouldn't hesitate to use them again.
