DPRK Bird Flu Program
Kyodo News ("N. KOREA REPORTS NO HUMAN CASES OF BIRD FLU, SAYS KIMCHI MAY HELP", 2005-11-27) reported that the DPRK said it has not had any human cases of bird flu, though it is stepping up efforts to prevent a possible pandemic of the deadly avian virus. A DPRK Health Ministry official said on Saturday that while there is no medicine yet available to effectively treat the bird virus, the traditional Korean dish kimchi might help due to an acidic substance it contains. |

We now have a second source claiming the curative powers of kimchi. That pretty well cinches it, doesn't it? It'll be the cover story in Scientific American next month. |

It may have a curative placebo effect. If you believe something will you cure you, this increases its actual chances of doing so considerably.
The acidic nature of kimchi may be helpful in digestion or other things..but the way such a virus as Hn51 works, I don't think kimchi could logically or scientifically counteract it. |

I don't think kimchi has helped NK have no bird flu.
I think that the shooting of everyone that sneezes and immediately burning the corpses has done more than the kimchi. |
