I could not believe the favorites were taken out of the running because they could not attend the "gala". Confused

Shouldn't the Asian Player of the Year actually be based in Asia? It doesn't make sense giving it to a player who plies his trade in Europe.For example,Ronaldinho was named European Player of the Year even though he is Brazilian. Nationality or ethnicity shoudn't matter, only where a player is based.
