Hongdae is now an area hot with youthful passion that has degenerated from being mixed up with foreigners. As the recent act of indecent exposure by a punk band on live TV showed, the diversity and individuality of the area in front of Hongik University is nowhere to be found.

That's a pretty bold statement right there. The writer at once blames us foreigners for the "degeneration" of Hongdae, and hints that we even had a hand in the TV incident that occurred a few weeks ago.

The b*stard should be drawn and quartered.

If anything, I've seen more diversity since the Music Camp incident. I think Hongdae has improved slightly since the summer.

And let's face it--the more foreigners are in Hongdae, the more it sucks. Maybe because you have more competition for girls, maybe because there'll be more fights, or maybe because it changes the happy and safe vibe of the place.

The funniest thing about that wasn't the flapping peckers, but the fact that some Koreans (probably 15 year old kids who think Seo Tai Ji invented punk) have their panties in a bunch about the The Clash T-shirt worn by one of the band members (pardon the pun) because they are unaware that it uses the kamikazee flag to parody imperialism.

The dude in the Clash shirt wasn't in the band, just the entourage. I was supposed to be on that stage but I had a fight with my girlfriend as I was getting ready to leave.

Good summary of the outcry. Gave me a nice laugh. Seo Taiji, hah.

Word of advice for the lads, from an older married guy. The territorial p1ssing over available females you mention ranges from slightly amusing when you see hipgrinding lotharios closing in for the kill on the dancefloor to sad when you see young bucks clashing heads. Knock one out before you go out and you'll have a better time. In my experience, relationships founded on alcohol are pretty lame. There are so many better places to find chicks than out on the town. Discharge the testosterone, settle down and enjoy a good night out drinking with mates.

These two observations receive the much-coveted Guru Seal of Approval.

In that case, if you've got anything to say that the mods will hate ... now's the time to get it out.

It's a bit sad that this messageboard can't have free conversation. We are all adults. Do you think this is due to the possibility of bad publicity for Dave's ESL? Imagine if Korean news media picked up some of our discussions on here! Shocked I wouldn't really want that, but then again, I wish we could say anything on here, including the word "*beep*".

Yeah, what's with the word censorship? Who could be offended by that? I've never known a Korean to be bothered by some good ol' f-wordery.

I know he wasn't in the band. I just couldn't resist making that 'band member' joke. Maybe it's better that you didn't make it (although it would have been an incredible story to hear over a couple of beers). I wouldn't have been surprised that the 'netizens' (the Korean politically correct term for 'geeky virgins') would have managed to misconstrue your presence into proof of the negative influence of American culture (regardless of your nationality to boot).

Yeah, I have no idea what would have happened to me. Although, the guitarist of Rux at the time was American (white) and nobody ever noticed. When the police called him down to the station, he was freaking out, but they didn't give him any trouble.

By the way, you know the two guys have been released early from their "five-year sentence," right? It wasn't big news.

Good for them. I really can't imagine how that could ever deserve 5 years in prison, or any time at all for that matter, because there's is really nothing obscene about the human body. Damn Korean media and politicians....In any case, I'm not holding my breath to see this show in Korea...
