I see this thread has gone off topic a bit.
Again it all depeneds on what you want to do? If you want ti play games then windows is your only decent choice. But if all you want to do is email, browse the web, watch movies and listen to music then linux is just fine as well.
I am so tired of all the bickering between OS's. There is nothing wrong with MS (Not that I am defending them) and it does allI want it to. Why should I change when I am quite happy and do not have any problems with it? I dont load crap on my system so it stays running smoothly for a long time. Even MAC's slow down after some time. And they also tear you a new one for prices of software so are they really better?
Just my 5 cents. |

But I can use Photoshop, Premiere, InDesign, Dreamweaver, the entire MSOffice suite, two or three P2Ps while watching a video on one of the other monitors. Although I've never tried it, I'd imagine I could also render video at the same time. I don't care what laptop you have, it would start gasping and crying after Dreamweaver (and likely far before).
Additionally, I can update and upgrade hardware a whole ton more easily and cheaply and even though I have four drives in the computer (not counting the external because you can do with your computer equivalent of a purple-eared poodle) and half a terrabyte of hardrive space, I have room to slot in four more drives as well as four empty slots for RAM should I decide to go above my present 2 gigs.
I'll say again, although computer-light users never get it, all you have with a laptop is vanilla portability. |
I have a gig of ram in my laptop, I run Maya and Adobe designer, Azerous, Acrobat at the same time. I don't have that many problems its not as quick as a desktop but trading ability to work anywhere is a real bonus. I use to think Laptops were junk because of their life span but then I bought one and I love it.
Best thing about my laptop is that the rez is 1680X1050 Widescreen. Beats the crap out of 90% LCD monitors on the market. Not to mention it almost makes no noise. I still prefer my Workstation CRT backhome 21" 2KX1.6k resolution is the bomb but it also weighs like 40 lbs. |

You're still watching the same porn whether it's on a mac or a pc. Just for the record the palm sisters are not sexy - but if it's been a long time since you had the real thing they might seem sexy to you... |

But why not just say you don't think Apple products are sexy instead of insulting him? Oh, I see -- because that wouldn't be funny.
Well, here are three Apple-related desktop backgrounds that I'm very keen on.
I'm very fond of those images (the middle one especially), though I've never been much into web image-based self-gratification. However, I hope that won't stop anyone from trying to score a few hyuk-hyuks at the Guru's expense. Please, insult away! |

It's okay, cause I know M.A.S.H in person and he's a big boy. Plus he's take a few shots at me in the past and it's all fun.
Next time I take pot shots at Mac Users I'll make sure you don't feel left out. |

Back onto the topic. Mac users are nuts about their laptops because they are beautiful objects, if I had the cash I'd buy a nice mac laptop. Mac comps look great and are generally very reliable pieces of kit.
I have nothing against PC stuff and I've owned a few. I'm not a big fan of windows but it generally gets the job done. I plan to build a new computer in the new year and set my old one up as a server thing.
PC systems do give you a huge amount more of a 'bang for your buck' and it is really pretty easy to build and maintain a reasonable system for a lot less money than a MAC would. If I was very rich I'd buy a MAC but until then I'll save money.
If I owned a MAC I'd be happy but why spend more than you have to on gear?
I've heard through a few mates that macs are going to get a lot more powerful soon and also cheaper. I might just switch over to them then as I can't stand all that DRM or whatever it is called crap interferring with how I use my property. |

I don't get it.
I read on CNet that so many Mac laptop owners rate their machines so highly. But when I look at them in the stores, I notice that the screens are as dark as when I have my non-Mac laptop on almost the darkest power-saver setting. How can Mac people not notice this, and find fault with it?
Are they blind, or just obessed with patting themselves on the back for being different? |
Well, I just got a mac laptop a few months ago after using PCs exclusively and the thing that makes me enjoy this computer so much is its ease of use and the everything that I plug into it works fine. As for the screens, I thought that as well. That's when I turned up the brightness on my laptop and found that the screen is just as bright as any other laptop I've used.
To tell the truth, I can see the use of having both a mac and a pc, but for me the mac has been the best thing for what I want to do. I'm a musician whose interests are more centered around multimedia programs rather than games and stuff (though it can play games as well). PCs are better for gaming and programming (I think as I don't do any programming) and the software is more up to date (MSN with its a/v chat as one pertinent example). In the end however I think it comes down to preference for the most part. Both are good systems and quite honestly I wouldn't mind owning a PC desktop as well.
Also, I can't stress how amazing it is to plug in any peripheral and have it work instantly. Maybe I just needed a PC with WinXP, but DAMN this mac works well. |

I realise you are new to this board, but careful. Them's fighting words to some people!
(Yes, a PC with XP would probably be a fairer comparison than whatever earlier version of Windows you were using. And yes again, having both a Mac for everyday use with a budget-level PC "in reserve" is the best way to go. Fortunately, lower-end though serviceable PCs are dirt-cheap, so having both systems is hardly considered an extravagance in this, the Land of High School Girlies with 600k-won Cameraphones. ) |
