Best in HongDae! I just had 3 chicken enchilladas for 6,000 won.. and they were GOOD! (They weren't 2000 won each, but when you order enchilladas, you get 3 of them).

I HIGHLY recommend this restaurant. Much better than the other Mexican Restaurant in HongDae, for much cheaper prices.

Where do you find it?

Well, if you come out of the subway.. take the exit towards Hong Ik University. There will be the popular street between the subway with McDonalds way up on one end, and Pizza Hut way down on the other hand. Just walk one block from the subway and you'll see STARBUCKS.

At Starbucks, take a left. About 50meters on the right, you'll come to an alley. In that alley, on the right side, you will see MARGARITA MEXICAN RESTAURANT.

Go in and order, and keep these guys in business! The food was great!

This place was already on my Hit List for when I'm back to ripping apart defenceless animal flesh. I'd assumed they'd still be there months from now, but when you say "keep these guys in business!", I'm beginning to have my doubts. Is there some reason you think good food, good prices and a Hongdae location won't be enough to keep this place around? Sad

Is this the same place that's right next to the park?

I ate there once when I was too drunk to be a critic.

Depends on what you mean by "park", but no... It's near the Starbucks.

The one near the park is a different one - Casa (something). I'd rather take the train to Itaewon, get a proper burrito at Chilis in Noksapyong, and come back on the train to HongDae rather than eat in that place next to the park. I think the prices overwhelmed me the most about that place.

Margarita's Mexican Restaurant is near Starbucks. Different place, and very much worth every cent.

I think its a new restaurant.. and not in the most visible of locations.. but those enchilladas were some of the best I've had in a really really long time.

For some reason, every since that Sbarros disappearing from Gwangwhamoon and Incheon Airport.. my faith in sustainability of good and cheap non-korean restaurants has been quite shattered.

Yeah, that was a black day on my calendar, too.

For all the money Koreans have available to spend -- and will spend -- on food, for all the overseas travel they get up to anymore, for all the foreign-educated putzes walking around this country, the scarcity of dining options is truly laughable. But then again, if they suddenly rivalled Guam in that respect, I'd probably be the sadder. I prefer my Korea backward and laughable.

More samgyopsal & soju, boys? Cool

How do you think I felt!!?

Margaritas is good for the money, but when I went I didn't recommend it on this board because a lot of north americans seem to have very high expectations for mexican food and I didn't think it was any better than Pancho's in Itaewon.

Beer's cheap too

What's there anymore, James? Some bothersome pre-pay East Asian Food Court thing, as I recall.

I was down there on the odd weekend for months... I would gladly have taken Sbarro's 6-hour-old lazy pizza slices, all coagulated and toughened under the heat-lamps....AND LOVED IT!! Shocked Sad

Heaven forbid Mexicans have any standards when it comes to their own cuisine! Wink

It's a restaurant, so I doubt it.

The problem with Pancho's is that it's expensive. I won't say that Chili Chili's is outstanding compared to back home, but I compare price to quality when I check these places out. That's why I won't touch La Salsa Loca on Yeouido, no matter how good it is. It just seems too expensive to rank on the same level as Chili Chili and the place by Kyobo Tower. Those are both decent AND cheap. If I want gourmet Mexican, I'll make my own burritos.

That said, I'll be talking somebody into tagging along from work and check this place out soon enough.

Yeah, I know what you mean.

Actually, Margaritas wouldn't be the best Mexican Restaurant in the world by any stretch of the imagination.. but for the price and for being in Korea.. its damn close for me anyways considering the circumstances.

I don't like Pancho's in Itaewon at all.. went there once, and never again. Actually I based that on the price combined with the food. If the price is good, I'm willing to overlook all kinds of things. If its high priced and the food is less than worth every cent (and it usually isn't), I'll come down hard on it.

Zyzyfer probably has the highest tastes on the board when it comes to Mexican food.

As an American myself as well (whatever that means - just that we're sometimes unreasonably critical of Mexican food despite not even being Mexican).. I'm a bit skeptical and am real hard on Panchos and the Casa-whatever Restaurant in HongDae.. but Chilis in Noskapyong and Margarita Restaurant in HongDae.. I give two thumbs up - based on food quality combined with price.

For those who want elegant dining and all kinds of other stuff - its not. But for a basic eat out without spending a fortune - its way high on my list anyways.

Thanks for the restaurant review, TB. I'm planning on coming up to Seoul this weekend and a head's up on decent food is always welcome.

Not to invade the topic at hand, but it's of a similar vein. If you haven't checked out the pizza by the slice place in a while, they've got an updated menu with some more Korean styles of pizza (potato and bulgogi pizza, for instance), and one highly unusual entry called the okonomi pizza. A few new sides as well.

Tried the chicken enchiladas. Thumbs up on those, although I'm not sure what enchiladas are supposed to be like.

They don't open until 4 pm, which sucks. It doubles over as a bar, so they serve pretzels as a side with beer, and you're allowed to smoke inside. They actually don't have a lot of items on the menu, but the chef dude cooked the food from scratch.
