Hello all!

I have accepted a job with E2 English School in Changwon, and in the process now of visa etc. I''m back in Australia and have just photocopied my degree and have had it verified by an Australian Justice of the Peace. Do I still need to send the original along with these photocopies to the consulate to be notorised or just the copies okay?

Thanks Very Happy

U need to take your original to the Korean consulate or embassy and get them to notarize it. They dont accept notarization from any other sources.

A few years back I had my degree copied and verified by an Australian Justice of the Peace. I sent that onto the consulate in Canberra with a cheque for $14 AUD if memory serves correctly, and they stamped it no problems.

Good to see another Aussie coming to Changwon. I've been here for 4 years now. E2 is a pretty good school too, you should have very few, if any, problems with them.

Yes, you'll need to get your degree notarized at the Korean consulate, either in Martin Place in Sydney (use to cost $10 a page notarized in Sydney, 4 years ago) or Canberra. Brisbane doesn't have one and I don't know about Melbourne, Perth or Darwin.

You'll need to show them your original and take some copies of it for them to notarize (get some extras done while your there in case you decide to stay in Korea longer than one year as Korean Immigration sometimes keeps the notarized copies but never the originals). You'll also need to get your Uni to send you an original copy of your transcripts in a sealed official Uni envelope that is both stamped (official Uni stamp) and signed across the envelope seal. You'll need all this for the Korean Immigration Office.

Hope to see you when you get here and we'll have a beer. PM me and I'll send you my phone number or if you make it out to the local foreigner bar "O'Briens", ask for Aussie Michael and someone will point you in my direction. I'll be the one drinking XXXX and smoking a cigar.

Just to clarify, while you are in the process of signing your contract and getting the paperwork done to get the entry stamp in your visa, send the notarised copy and hold onto your original degree.

Bring the original with you to Korea but, there is no reason for your employer or recruiter to ever lay hands on either until you go to the immigration office to complete the visa application process. Keep your documents close to you until that time and retain them afterwards.

For those talking about going to the consulate, I can't, I'm in Queensland, ya really think I'm going to fly down to bloody Sydney just for this?? I HATE Sydney!!! (sorry cockroaches)

So I can just send along the ones I have notarised without the original degree? I was told it was only $3 per page!

Thanks BigBuds for the boost, I'm a little worried as I'm in the middle of organising the flight (I have to pay, will be reimbursed when I arrive) and they stil haven't gotten back to me about it, when, where etc Shocked ! I just hope they're not going to turn around and say now we don't want you!!

The only info I could find wrt Australia was:

From:

Visa application should be made to the Korean Embassy(if you are reside in ACT, VIC, SA, WA and TAS only). if you are reside in NSW, QLD and NT, please contact Consulate-General in Sydney.

113 Empire Circuit, Yarralumla, ACT 2600 (Embassy)
TEL: 61-2-6270-4100
FAX: 61-2-6273-4839

E-mail(I think): [email protected]

http://www.mofat.go.kr/ee/ee_a001/ee_ausy/ee_jpjp02.jsp (not an overly informative web-site...welcome to the work of bureaucratic nightmares)

United Overseas Bank Building Level 8, 32 Martin Place,
Sydney NSW 2000 Australia
TEL: 61-2-9221-2191

E-mail(I think): [email protected]

Anyway, if QLD means Queensland, looks like you have to go through Sydney afterall. Call them and ask what's required for their office. As others said, make some photocopies of the notarized version and send them along with your original(if they require it) to Sydney along with a self-addressed return registered or priority envelope, probably by registered or priority mail. Call the office and ask what they require; they should be able to tell you.

I lived on the Gold Coast and just for the sake of peace of mind(who knows what could happen) I just took a Virgin Blue flight there and back and got it set up while it was down there....

Last time I went there however, what a pack of frigging wankers they were but anyway must have hit them on a bad day...

E2 is a good school (or did i already tell you that) in fhangwon...

Oh, yeah you might want to stear clear of BigBuds, the frigging cigar stinks!!!
