If you don't get specific directions, just walk around the area you want with your head tilted back. You'll see big bowling pins on roofs everywhere. Look under the bowling pin for a bowling alley. |

Yes, I know how to spot them. But, am not familiar with central Seoul.
Anyone know of any places near Itaewon, Hongdae et al? |

there's a couple in Hongdae- one on the same road as the university gates, near Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf, and one opposite Seokyo hotel on the way to Hapjeong station.
I've found that the holes in the balls are too small for my sausage fingers though- the ball doesn't release properly, and it ends up in the gutter half the time.
(The problem is not, repeat NOT my lack of skill) |

And they don't sell beer!
We always have to bring our own. Great when you're with a bunch of foreigners and the staff is too scared to say anything.... doesn't work so well when you go with your Korean girlfriends and the staff tell them to tell us we're not allowed to drink |

Hmm, well for the one near Hotel Seokyo you'd need to get out at Hong-Ik Uni station, then take the exit near Tony Roma's- whichever one is opposite the road from exit 6.
Walk in the direction of Hapjeong, you should go past a gas station, and Carne Station, it's on that road somewhere.
For the one near Hong-Ik uni gates you're better off with Sangsu station (orange line?) and take the exit which will lead towards the university. You need to be on the side of the road opposite the Far East Broadcasting corporation (which will be marked on the neighbourhood map).
You'll go past (a bar) US66, a record shop, a conveyor belt sushi restaurant, and it's around there somewhere- either before or just after Coffee Bean and Tea Leaf. Actually I seem to remember it's just next to "Han's Sausage" restaurant and the Sogang uni language programme building.
Giving directions is hard. |
