|

I just made such a great little find here in Busan that I'd feel remiss if I didn't share it with the entire world.
It's an Indian restaurant called ε±, or Road to India.
Tastes differ, of course, and I wouldn't want anyone to go on my advice and then be disappointed.
The ambience just about blew me away. This being Korea, you expect everything to be sort of predictable. Instead, imagine that you've stepped right OUT of Korea and into . . . well, I'm not quite sure what, never having been to India.
The walls are painted in bright colors and hung with embroidered prints of Hindu gods. The waitresses are all dressed in saris, and are OUTRAGEOUSLY gorgeous looking. Several tables are curtained-off, contributing to the illusion that you've left Korea behind you somewhere on the street and been magically whisked off to India. Krishna smiles benevolently down on you as Indian music plays over the sound system.
Oddly, the menu leans heavily on BEEF curries. I'm not a good judge of Indian food, but can only say that for 7000 won I got a tasty beef curry with nan and coffee (good coffee, by the way) which was very satisfying.
The inevitable comparison, of course, is with Ganga, where I ate just yesterday, as it happens. I suppose that Ganga has better quality, though I prefer the ambience at Road to India, and find the prices much more to my liking.
Unfortunately, it's very difficult for me to give directions, because this is the kind of totally out-of-the-way place which you would never in a million years find if someone didn't take you there. (I went with a Korean friend.)
It's not far from Busan tower. The Kwangbok-dong Kookmin bank branch is nearby. Apparently the name of the road is ARIRANG STREET. It's off-limits to cars (or at least seemed to be when I was there), being occupied by a couple dozen or so ancient-looking ajummas squatting in the middle of the road selling fish and kimchi.
Walk about halfway up this street and look for "ε±" on a second-floor signboard. It's not marked in English letters and is not conspicuously signposted at all. You could easily miss it.
Very much worth looking for though!
Here's the address given on the firm's business card:
#15-2 2Ka Changsun-Dong, Chung-Ku, Pusan, Korea

It's been in business for nigh onto 10 years. Hardly the best kept secret in Pusan, but few people get to Nampodong anymore.
They've covered over the acres of graffiti, and for a time, began offering 'healthy' nan as opposed to the greasy fried nan that most of us go there for. |

Nice restaurant. I've been going there for three years. Another route is to walk down the main road in Nampo-Dong, and turn right at the KFC (toward Busan tower). The restaurant is on the right side about a block in.
There's what I think is another branch of the restaurant just as you exit Haeundae station for the beach, on the second floor on the left.

| It may not be the best kept secret but I've never heard of it in a year of living in Busan. I'll be sure to check it out. |
