Yes, Liberals always develop a little bit of spine when it comes to the US right before an election.

I've found this last week to be very odd. It started at the Montreal Environment conference when Martin basically said, without naming names, that the world needs a unified front on climate change. Now that doesn't really sound strange, in fact it seems like he's just uttering the obvious but the US categorizes this as a snub, basically saying, "How DARE you say we can't act unilaterally!!!!!!"

Then out of the blue this new ambassador starts telling politicans not to bash the US in their platforms. Well... nobody was bashing the U.S.

The debate was over the tax surplus, accountability, handgun bans... Nobody thought to even mention the U.S. at all until he brought it up, at which point there is a justifyable complaint that the US is trying to interfere in the election. (Same day, the Washington Times pretty much endorsed Harper though).

I'm still trying to figure out where these two offenses started. They just seem to have been spontaneously spouted into the media, and I find it especially odd since the US usually stays quiet during a Canadian election, to avoid any accusations they are pressuring one way or another.

Are they just baiting Martin for a smear campaign? American media now seems to be categorizing him as a radical anti-American (he's the main story on CNN as I write this).

This has been a rather confusing week but something's in motion somewhere, spinning away.

If the Bush administration wants Martin to lose so badly they should just endorse him. That would drop his popularity in Canada pretty quickly.

Note: Even Stephen Harper is doing his best to distance himself from Washington.

Man I hope the liberals loose and or win and end up as a minority government.

I hope the government collapses once more and maybe the separatist movement in the west becomes active and Canada breaks up. East gets flush down the drain, and the West takes its oil and sells it at a ridiculous prices to the states or other countries which is stupid or desperate enough. West can keep the conservatives and East can bask in the glory of the stupidity that is Liberalism.

If he gets elected, rest assured he won't turn down any of George Bush's invitations to go fishing.

Heck, they might even play ball together.

Well, as long as they don't sing "When Irish Eyes Are Smiling" together.

Well I sure hope Canada-bashing doesn't take center stage in next year's congressional elections. It's such a cheap and ugly political manouver...

I heard that at the last Republicn Convention, staffers had planned to play "Blame Canada" on the opening day....only to be stopped by those who were older and wiser......whipping up anti-Canuck feelings always works...but it demeans all Americans....

Wouldn't a conservative gov't in the US rather have a conservative gov't in Canada? They probably figure they can then rape and pillage the NA continent's resources together--with the US getting the biggest slice at the best price of course.

The Bush admin underestimates the level of ill-will towards them over the softwood lumber dispute--which was ruled in Canada's favour and which the US totally ignored and did not comply with!!!! How's that for R-E-S-P-E-C-T?
Just lettin' everyone know their signature means NOTHING on the NAFTA agreement and dispute abritration they agreed to way back when. And now they're boo-hooing about "their biggest trading partner bla bla bla".

That's the hypocritical Bush and his admin for ya.

Someone PLEASE give the man a blow job so they can impeach him!!!

Man, you're just as whiny as a Quebece seperatist. Try living in the Maritimes or Newfoundland to see how it feels to be @#$@$% over by the government.
