2 times European surfing Champion Spencer hargraves was in my class at school, in Cornwall. He was a shy little guy then, teased a lot.
Incidentally saw loads of other surfer stars there when i used to watch the headworx world surfing competition there every year.
Oh yeah..I was at school with, and know fairly well, Former Zimbabwe cricket captain Guy Whittall
And fast bowler Stuart Carlisle
as well as a couple others who became international sports stars.
I'm a good friend of a certain well-famous Irish movie star..who i just cannot bring myself to mention.
Likewise.. know well a sister of one of the former (very famous) 007 Bond girls. can't name drop with people i've known well!!
in fact I better just stop there..as there are quite a few more celebrities, journalists and authors that I know who it would seem silly to mention on here.
all in all..I guess I've known/met/seen about 100 or so famous people. Also known brothers and sisters of them, and so on.. Ok wait: I know the ex wife of manfred mann, and the former World heavyweight champion frank bruno's brother... umm.. Ok, i'll stop now. its pretty much endless.... |

I know quite a lot of celebrities, you might say.
They were just ordinary people. |

I "met" Pope John II on stage in 1997 in the Czech Rep. I didn't get to kiss his ring but if he'd of asked I would have said "kiss my ass".
How can so many, so filled with the self empowering spirit of Jesus' spirit (and I am fairly agnostic but I do think Christ's message is amazing, as is a number of others.....), be so busy not being born and abusy dying..... ?God! it is pathetic. They go too far with the "render unto Ceasar" bit.
He totally didn't impress me. A Ceasar. Really a non-entity and he could have been any smuch put on a pedestal. Really like any rock star or media made type.....built with the church's money and sword that wields so much suffering unto the world. Like the Grand Inquisitor of Dostoevsky -- people don't want to be free.....they want some old, robe wearing nullla to hold up a cross and give them an excuse to do anything they want. ....
Totally unimpressive. May he rest in peace....

No apologizes to all those Catholics out there.... |
Thats interesting Deubel.
-Of course, catholicism isn't christianity- however much they have tried to promote is as such.
The pope has more resemblance to the antichrist, than he does to a representative of God. |
I get what you have to say abou the bird flu, but this is sheer and utter ignorance. the term Christian far pre-dates the protestant movement. Explain that..... ah, nevermind. Inorance is beautiful. Let's not hi-jack an interesting thread. |

I've been trying to remember the one's I've met and am drawing blanks. Sold a Cherokee to a baseball pitcher... Freddy Tolliver, maybe?
My aunt was a minor actress. (Hass a Bacon # of 2 or 3. )
Had a nice chat with Wes Studi, a pretty well-known Native American actor at a function in Hollywood. Wife was wonderfu, too.
Glen and Les Charles spoke at my uni graduation... and based some of the Cheers characters on people from their time as students there... Didn't meet 'em, though.
Met a guy who played pro football for a couple years, also from uni. Not gonna look up the name. Canadian Football League, I think.
Helen Westcott was a close family friend. Minor actress.
Seen a handful of famous folks here and there.
Went to a party in Hwood at Chuck Norris' home. Wasn't there... But Billy Idol was, and Princess... Stephanie? One of them from Monaco... The partier... Didn't talk to either of 'em.
Guy I went to school with is a reporter with CNN. Or was. Assume he's still boradcasting. Frank Buckley.
The sister of a well-known football player of the 70's - blanking on the name - was my choir director at church. Never met him. Far as I know the whole family - except him - still lives there in that little desert town. You know, the one from the song... 29 Palms...
And, best of all, another aunt almost married Gen. Schwartzkoff (sp?). He of Desert Storm fame. I've seen the pics and heard the stories. This was back when he was just getting started. She broke it of when he went off to Vietnam.
A guy I've met through a friend, Mike Kindle, who's acting still is getting TV and movie roles. Still a minor player, but was on 24 this season... Nico Guilak.
And Mike's girlfriend at the time, I don't know if they're still together, I could call an acquainance-ish friend. Was the girlfriend in "Iron Will."
Ah, all these are not nearly as impressive as any of the others you all have posted. |

Kip Winger. Very impressive guy. Calm and collected. Insightful. Between his songs, he talked with the small crowd of 30 gathered around on the floor, and took requests. Met him five years ago as he toured Border's Bookstores. Talked with him for a few minutes after the show. Some dumazz guy made an off-color comment about his wife, who had recently died. Everyone was like, "Why would you say something like that??" The croud really chewed on the guy for saying something so rude and stupid. It didn't make any sense why the guy would say something like that? Winger just put his head down and moved on. We were all embarrased and felt sad for him. Somehow, the subject of having kids came up, and Kip talked about how he felt that just because some people are married doesn't mean that they should have kids. He felt it was important that the parents consider whether or not they would be good parents or not, for the child's sake. It was interesting.
I also met Fergie, and shook her hand. That was on some special city-tour thing she was doing for weight watchers.
I've met others, but I forget at the moment. |

I once met 2nd rate action star Bill "Superfoot" Wallace...who can be seen receiving a roundhouse kick from Sir Charles Norris in the movie Force of One... or was it The Octagon. Cool guy. Couldn't find any pictures on the net. |

Met and spoke to Ice-T during the Lollapalooza '91 tour. He was really cool, and when he wasn't performing, he took the time to watch most of the other acts from the wings.
Met Dan Ackroyd in my hometown maanny moons ago. He looked a little miffed when he asked whether or not I wanted his autograph, and I replied: "No, you still owe me eight bucks for Celtic Pride".
My sister-in-law met Christopher Walken about 5 years ago; he was tres cool and very personable. |

Simon Rattle.
I had a few conducting lessons from him when I was 17.
I've also met a few minor celebs in the UK.. nothing to boast about.
When I was in Hong Kong, I bumped into two of the most famous singers there and I said *sorry* without realising who I had bumped into as I was busy talking with my mum... it was only later that I realised they were the singers.

Wow, that is a surprise. I thought he would be very difficult to talk to. |

When I was about ten or eleven I went to a card show and Dan Marino was signing autographs. I waited in line with my Dad and just asked if I could shake his hand. He asked me if I played football and what position I played and after shaking my hand said, "This should be good for a couple of touchdowns." Overall he seemed like a real nice guy.

I worked my way through grad school as a limo driver in NJ/NY so I've met a few.
Mike Bloomberg, got in an argument with him and won because he actually listened. Total New Yorker even though he's from Boston. Gotta say I don't agree with everything he does but he's up there among people who should be president but will never get the chance.
The captain from Deep Space Nine: 420 friendly, good tipper and a cool guy to hang with.
Joyce Carole Oates: bitch, pretentious, most disappointed since I had read most of her work.
The dad from coming to America, very cool guy.
Miss Korea; embarrasingly cute in person.
98 degrees, suprisingly nice- gave me a chance to sell some dumb teeny-bopper a used bottle of water for $20- no I didn't actually sell it, I just gave it to her and wept for the future.
The guy that created the virtual first down marker, best stock tip I never took.
The roadies from Air Supply
Assorted porn stars
Bunch of other people I can't remember |

I had Jamie Lee Curtis on a flight- she was an angel. She said a general "Hi" to the first class pax. I hung-up her Armani jacket for her. Very classy.
Had Howie Mandel on a flight from KC-DFW. He slept with his baseball cap over his face the whole time. His mgr. was checking me out, though.
Had the lady that does the voice for Lisa (? or was it the teacher...) on "The Simpson's". She used to be on "Newhart". I got her autograph for a friend who has every Simpson's episode on tape.
Met almost all of the people who teach ESL on EBS. (I love to gossip...) |
