I don't like this whole culture. The OP's post is a great example of it.

So guys have to pass some kind of test to just get a bit of a girls time? Even though she doesn't have to do anything except be entertained by his attempts to show he's interested in her and get bought drinks and stuff.

Yet all the time she has to pretend she's not interested so as to not look easy but actually she would like nothing more than to hook up with someone.

It's a bit one-sided, isn't it? Bit too much work for the guys.

Er, actually at that moment I would have liked nothing more than to sip my rum-and-pineapple and chat with my friend Julie. I wasn't sitting there waiting to be picked up.
I buy my own drinks, and if I like a fellow, I will usually let him know. I've invited them to my table, approached to chat a little, sent notes, made sustained eye-contact, asked for a dance... short of sky-writing, I've employed all sorts of tactics to meet the people I'm interested in, but sitting while ignoring and pretending not to be interested is not one of them.

Tactics...

Just seems strange to me. The last time I was at a night club, I was sitting at the bar with a friend watching the dance floor, when two sisters came in and sat down at the bar next to us. They were both Korean. I eventually struck up a conversation with the older one -- I can't remember what started it -- but most of the conversation was about her job, which was an interesting one. She was a research scientist for a pharmaceutical company. She wasn't bad looking, but not a goddess. I got her number and we went out a couple of times afterwards.

Thing was, I wasn't even trying to meet someone. Frankly, unless there's something interesting about a woman's job or hobbies or something, all this dance floor/pick up bar stuff just seems boring. Yeah it's nice to look at eye candy, but isn't the most interesting part of a woman's body, her mind?

Absolutely not. That's a new age conspiracy. You're supposed to be able to see through it by the time you're thirty... Very Happy

It was easy for me to pick up my girlfriend. She kept inviting me over to cook me filet mignon (she doesn't eat beef) and to watch hockey (she hates hockey). She did all the work in building up the interest, then all I had to say is "wanna date?" This seems to be the ideal method for me.

Interesting post kermo.

But remember you're referring to Korean Guys.

They have no clue about how western women think, or how to behave in general.
They never have to hone their women skills, they are from a male-dominated society where women have been subdued to bow to them howver they behave. They never learn to identify with women, or chat them up.. Why bother when you can simply have your family arrange a marriage, or force women to do what you want through physical violence.
Women are dependant on men in this society. and its rigged to remain that way.
If a guy wants a woman..all he has to do is get a company job and women will want him out of economic necessity.
No need to develop your witty or seductive persona..no need to learn what women like or what turns them on...no need to sympathise with them or anything else....

You just buy them-either at the whorehouse or by right of having a high paying job. No social skills required.

Greatest pickup line is no pickup line.... but when I must, theres one that has never failed to atleast get a smile and a polite "no" (well, mostly), and I must say that I'm quite the genius for inventing it:

Excuse me, is it OK if I hit on you?

See... the truth of the matter is that NO ONE, maybe not even God himself, knows how Western women think... at times I have toyed with the concept that they actually don't think, that their decision making process is derived from some other form of brain activity yet discovered by medical science... and the beauty of the line is that it tricks them, subterfuge, and sleight of hand. It makes them "think", "[radio garble]...well if I say yes I'm encouraging him, and if I say no I'm making it obvious that I'm not, but I have to say No politely or I'll look like a bitch...[more radio garble]"

It's brilliant! I read an article once that the average woman (I imagine Western woman) decides, perhaps subconsciously, whether or not she'll have sex with a man (or woman, its 2005 afterall) within 5 minutes of meeting him... and with this system you can tactfully weed out the lead zeppelins and not waste any more time trying to get them to fly.

And when a woman does respond impolitely? I call her a bitch and walk away Smile It's great being me.

...actually did that once, only to have her turn red in the face, stop me, profusely apologize, and offer to buy me a drink all the while explaining how she wasn't one, but was having a bad day...

I bet this one would not work.

A gay man is in a bar. He walks up to a lady. Then he says to

her, "Wow you are so hot, but I am gay."

Laughing

have to say it's much easier to laugh off and turn down a pick up line than the creepy guys who come up and flat out

'what is your name?'
'can we be friends can i know you?'

just on the street...i mean it's tough to say no i can't be your friend...then i'm just another white bitch

My buddy and I used to live across the street from a seriously cute, cool, girl (well, young woman.) He got to know her a little while I had always admired her from afar. One night at our local bar I was waiting for a drink and he tapped me on the shoulder and said, "Have you met ***** ?"

I turned around and there she was, in all her her glory. I literally said "blaaa-ooo" instead of hello but I recovered with a Ralph Wiggum classic, "My cat's breath smells like catfood."

She thought it was hilarious. My buddy was pissed because she and I talked for the rest of the night. I wouldn't count it as an actual "pick-up" since nothing developed from the situation . . . .
