Damon is on his way to the Bronx. He just signed a 4 yr 52 million dollar deal. As as life long Yankee fan, I dont know whether to be happy or not. I just love that the Redsox Fkd up again. Maybe this will reinstate the curse of the bambino. |

i'm not a die-hard fan, but i lived in boston last year. got to see them win the pennant, didn't go to the riot. but WTF? damon to the yankees? boston must want to lynch him. either that or they're happy they won the pennant and no longer care. the best headline after that world series was on the front of the new york daily news and it said "SEE YOU IN 2086." |

After getting rid of Wells for Clemens who I have hated for years I realize the Yankees have no soul and will take anyone to win. Compared to Clemens I love Damon. Course they may have no soul but I'm a fan since birth, BX baby. Just wish they'd figure out that they need some passion, seems like they bury it every year with a ton of cash. Love the headline. |

Qualifications required to be a Yankee:
a) name value
b) a dump truck to take away all your money
The Yankees actually lost money last year, even with revenues that dwarf several teams put together. Damon is a good pick up, but lets see who they overpay for this year. The smart money is on pitchers again this year (last year it was Vazquez and Brown). |

I'm surprised that Steinbrenner didn't go postal and fire the enitre staff after last season. |

The worst thing about it for sucks fans is that Damon will be taking his wife with him. |

OP: How can you say that the Red Socks [screwed] up? Keeping Johnny Damon was not about making a mistake or not screwing up... New York just shelled out much more money than any other team could have. |

Joe, do you even follow sports? It was not an issue with money. Damon had offers for more. It was the length of the contract. The redsucks wouldnt give him 5yrs. A little over 10 million a year may sound a bit much, maybe even offensive to you, but its not that much money in the MLB. Now if you can just hire the same agent to work on your next hagwon contract. |

I wish that the Yankees would not win a world series for at least 10 years. Better for baseball. Yankees fans (outside of actual New York natives/residents) are an annoying breed. Lord hear my prayer.
Go Sox!!! |

Sox fans are just so quick to turn on their alleged heroes.. Clemens got booed off the field and forced out by the team who declared him "over the hill", and now he's hated for returning the favor? Pick a recent Sox star.. Mo Vaughn, Damon, Garciaparra, Pedro. The Sox aren't loyal to their stars but practically string them up for a noose when they move on. |

Above post noted, but many people in Boston (including myself, a native) realize that letting Clemens go was a HUGE mistake (the since-departed GM is villified for that). Garciaparra didn't show much loyalty on his own part during contract negotiations (and his subsequent performance has been underwhelming to date). Pedro was, although talented, often a big pain in the a$$ and demanding a boat-load of money.
Boston loves a winner as well as sports icons that represent the quality of the people. Some of the biggest names in Boston sports are people recognized for their commitment to team play and "giving it up" for the team as much as for their personal stats. Many names come to mind.
My two cents. |
