and don't forget to give a special shoutout to all those teaching here in Korea with fake degrees:
THANK YOU!!!!
without you, I wouldn't have to waste my morning to rush out to immigration to go deal with something so meaningless (to those of us here legitmately).
Have a nice holiday, and hopefully a nice flight back to where you belong... |

Thanks for the heads up! I can't imagine how they could possibly penalize one for never having been officially informed about it but hey, it's bureaucracy at its best here so...
Thing is, for me, I don't think I'm going to worry about it. One reason is because my boss is trustworthy and if he hasn't received notice, and I have already asked about it, then they haven't bothered to contact him about it at all. On top of that, my wife and I just finished filling out the paperwork for our marriage last week and will be going to the Immigration office the first week of January to get the F2 at which point this won't be an issue for me. I will however bring this up with my boss tomorrow to make sure that no one else who could be affected will be taken unawares. Thanks for the info! |

Be pro-active for God's sake. If everyone else has to go, you do too. |

Pyongshin,
It's not really a matter or being proactive or not. If I were to be staying on an E2 then I would definitely go and I will still ask about it tomorrow. But I WILL have an F2 in about 1 week and once I do, I don't need to have any kind of E2 visa at all. That being the case, I won't be applying or renewing an E2 and it therefore doesn't apply to me the same as it doesn't apply to any other people on an F2. Thanks for the concern though! |

So, uh, what about the many many people who don't bother to read this forum, those people in small towns who haven't heard jack about it?
What's your guess on what will happen?

See that's my take on it too! I don't get how we can really be expected by immigration to know about all this bull about deadlines and the like when they don't inform the hogwans, businesses, and universities affected by this new condition. If you don't inform people officially and they don't show up, you can't really penalize them for it, can you? And with all this talk of being proactive about things, really, why should I be? Yes, I know I could be in shit for it but it seems like a very slapdash job already and if they only informed our boss about the ONE of the four of us then that tells me something: there's a reason they aren't concerned about the rest of us at the school. For one reason or another they have chosen not to ask for confirmation from us. My question is "why don't they want us to confirm?" and my answer is always, "if they haven't notified the boss about us three then that means that we'll get informed when they're good and ready to confirm our degrees." The people who have E2's now and want to renew will still be able to renew especially if they show up at the immi office with their degree and say, "I'd like to renew now." What's immi going to do? Say, "No, we didn't inform you about this confirmation crap and now that you're presenting us with what we want we'll still refuse"? They aren't going to do that because the hogwans who are paying them for this service are going to say "screw you! We have a teacher here who is qualified and wants to renew so renew now dammit!" And immi is going to do exactly that. Especially if the boss is sufficiently well known. Our boss even has a specific dude he deals with every time at immi. It's quite interesting. But anyway, we'll see what happens when the dude who's in the middle of nowhere and never even got notified tries to renew. But then, if he doesn't read this board, I guess we'll never know! |

Dysupes,
I am going to masan tomorrow or Thursday(whichever day i get out of bed early enough) as my boss rang immigration and they said it has to be done by the 31st december as well and people that don't may find themselves without any visa next year...
Probable situation if you don't do it..
Immigration"last year you didn't fill in this form, now we can't give you a new visa"
Teacher: "i didn't know"
Immigration: "Not our problem"(and other denial phrases)
What makes it worse is that you do know and you still didn't do it...
You know this is Korea and if they want to be pricks next year they will be
Just get your employer to ring immigration just to be on the safe side |

A few questions:
a) do you need to have the confirmation of degree form already or are they willing to provide on the spot?
b) I've heard tell that only originals will do but then there are plenty of people who say they just used copies and that was fine. I don't have my original and I've only got copies. Think that'll do?
c) Will a person who will be an F2 holder in about 8 days need to have confirmed an E2 degree when they won't be an E2 holder in 8 days?
Thanks! |

c) If you were an E2 on Dec 31st then you probably should do it |

Didn't need passport, ARC card or degree.
I just walked in there and handed in my form. They said "Who are you?"
I said "I am The Urban Myth".
They said "Ahh we read Eslcafe. You good teacher, always defend Korea, we give you visa next year."
Seriously though, I gave them the form and that was that. They didn't ask for anything else.
That was Suwon Immigration office BTW |

1. Seoul Immi. asked to see my degree specifically.
2. A friend of mine (American!) tried the other day with a photocopy and was told to go away and come back with the original.
3. They will give you the form when you get there. Just go. You need you alien card and your degree original, that's all. |

Well, told my boss today and went to immigration this afternoon. What a waste of time! We go down there with a colour photocopy of my diploma and my passport and ID card. The woman doesn't even look at the passport, takes down my ARC # on a photocopy of my photocopied diploma and then takes the form and says, "Ok, done." I mean honestly, I could have put together a fake diploma the night before and submitted it and it would have passed just as easily. Such a waste of time...
It was good that I mentioned it to them though as immigration apparently hadn't notified anyone. What a bunch'a maroons!
Anyway, here's hoping the F2 visa application runs smoothly next week at the immigration office. If they're as blase about that as they were about this, I have very little doubt. |

| I went to immigration. Two different immigration officers told me that it was not necessary for all foreigners. Some nationalities are being focused on through this "confirmation" process. According to the immigration officers, E-1 visa holders do not need to complete the form. E-2 visa holders (foreign language teachers) need to complete the form. |

| Not true. I have an E-1. I had to do it. I am, however, from that hive of scum and villainy known as Canada. |
