My fiancee will be coming back to Korea soon, bearing a number of useful foods and spices which help make eating here something other than torture.
What we're wondering about, however, is what the customs rules and limits are on various food items, such as instant sauce mix, instant soup, herbs, spices (none of which are available here in Korea), as well as everyday things like good tea and good chocolate.
Has anyone been through customs recently, and know what the latest set of restrictions are, or what things they specifically ask for?
Everyone has to fill out a form now (ever since November, apparently) with detailed lists of what they are carrying. Does anyone know which things on that list cause problems?

Seriosuly, though, Incheon customs are very strict on fruit. All incoming bags are now screened for it.

One of the Korean English teachers at my school brought back 7 dozen bagels from New York with her at the end of August... (and there I was, worried about my one loaf of Vogels and fancy cheese!)

Just back from China, bought a heap of stuff through customs at Busan. No problems at all, food as well as spices. Fill out all the forms and walk on through. Smile

I would have something to tell you if I hadn't been such an idiot and left all the food I bought in Taiwan in my hotel room.

Just back from Vietnam with a big bag of foodstuffs. They asked me what I had and I poked around in the top of the bags to see, pointed out the green bean cake, took out a box of dried candied fruits to show them - at that point they just waved me through....

Beef and fresh fruits are the big no no. I brought and declared I had salmon and had no problem. Chicken and pork I'd take hazard a guess are probably verboten. Fish, cheese, and any kind of canned/packaged goods are fine. If you're a single white guy you probably won't even get a question asked to you. If you have a Korean wife, you might get a few more questions. I've been through customs 4 times now and only twice have they even asked me so much of a question or even said a single word in English.
