How about an informal club, we could create an online space, for married foreigners with Korean Spouses.
Dark poet recently suggested a lobby group. I woke up this morning wondering why not an informal club.
My wife is with a married women's club with foreign men as spouses. They use a space site on Cyworld.
I was at a first birthday last weekend at a buffet in Socho-gu for a wee boy whose husband is in Brooklyn and his wife is here to show his Korean family his boy. It wasn't exactly exciting, none of the western men were there but me, but then it was good because I met her Korean family and they liked me being there. You know, cheerful response. And, I had a chance to eat up on raw salmon.
I've also been to some wilder nights running around town within the safety of this group. We all had a good, hic, time.

So, how about throw some ideas down here....
We could share a great deal, support, job or family advice, lobbying, petitioning if need be, and, arranging get-togethers.

I don't normally go in for something like this.... but I met a foreigner with a Korean husband over Christmas and it was so good to share the goodness and weirdness that is life with a Korean bloke!

I am interested..there is alot of unique stress and pressures on us. We are often not here for just one or two years. Many of us have long term goals in Korea. It would be good to work together and be able to help with some of the problems we all have.

Things like:

1: Can you register the apartment in the Western person's name to protect the key money. Answer: Yes, but you couldn't before.

2: Is the tax rate on selling an apartment the same for the Korean and the western person. Answer : Yes...but it wasn't always.

These are a sample of the very difficult questions most E2 people never have to worry about. We do need to work together a bit more because I have information that has taken 5 years to gather and many other people have information also.

I think a forum for people with Korean Spouses is a great idea. I moved to Korea to set up a life for myself which could be long term. I have not married yet but me and fiance have lived together for 4 years off and on. I would hope that I would ��qualify" me to share in this forum.

You could consider me a member in training.

The Korean men all have their group of friends who help them and give them information. I would imagine the women have their own type of groups also. Korean men often don't know how to do things but they can ask their circle of friends how to do it. We need this same type of support to be successful..not just survive...I mean have real success. Maybe we could include long time people also since they have a long term interest in Korea.

My wife is also part of some group called "In Love with a Foreigner." I have met with them a few times. I am usually one of the only two foreigners that show up. lol But it can be pretty fun sometimes.

Well, I know a free webhost which can hold 500 mb a month along with some data exchange: But, I'm really not sure using this webhost (http://cjb.cc) would give the necessary data storage and transfer especially if using a forum with lot's of data exchange and memory required.

So, does anybody know of a webhost in Korea, maybe even with a cheap price tag that can handle a forum etc?

I dont think there should be a requirement that one is married, only that one has that longevity and sensitivity with our particular predicament. I wouldn't expect a young strapping guy to arrive at one of our or your parties looking for grog and girls only to be surrounded by diapers and tea.

Other kinds of info:

-Can receive sizable tax refunds even on flat rate of 3.3% because the kids expenses make you poorer than a single bloke/chick.

-Can get education subsidies with second child if earnings aren't real high (cutoff levels around 2.8 million with a chonsei and other minor investments)

I'll join up wherever it starts. However I'm not sure what will/can be done. There is a foreign spouses of Koreans web site somewhere that I visited ages ago, but they didn't want any foreign men married to Koreans in their group. Clearly they misnamed their group and are very unfriendly.

If this new group goes through I suggest that you include both genders and be open to anyone married to Koreans. Also there should be some outreach to non-english speaking foreigners if possible.

If you're looking for a php board with a separate password-protected forum I may be able to help (mine's moving). You could also set up your own on a number of free sites. Besides that Yahoo Groups sucks, and I don't know anything about any other group services.
You could also create a portal on the wiki with specialized topics for F-2 holders and whatnot, like the ones they have on Wikipedia:

Kind of like a front page, but for certain types of people that want to organize the info in their own way.

If you go down a little bit there's a list of tasks which are articles wanted that someone in that field is more likely to know about than the average person.
