Hello everyone,
I wanted to pass on this information. Probably a lot of you seasoned travellers already know this, but here goes:
When looking for airline tickets, try going directly to the airline website. This doesn't work in some cases (like air canada), but in other cases the savings are substantial.
As an example, I wanted to go to the Philippines for my break. I used all of the popular travel agents that are foreigner friendly and was quoted prices ranging from 500,000 Won up to 750,000 Won (plus tax) for a round trip one month ticket. One of the agents that quoted me 500,000 Won (plus almost 100,000 won taxes) was using EVA Airlines ( www.evaair.com ) and there was a stop in Taipei. So, I figured I'd like to stopover for a couple days in taipei as well. So while I am waiting for an answer about that from the travel agent, I go to the EVA Air website to try to find the information for myself.
At the EVA Air site, I plugged in the trip I intended to take, and it came up with fares at 360,000 Won + 90,000 Won tax. A substantial savings over the travel agent price. I dont mind a commission, but thats way to high.
So I hope that bit of info helps.

Its all a bit hit and miss....
Cathey pacific is another good one for cheap fares on their website...
The best option is to use a variety of sources and that way you know you will have the best price.... |

I always check out cathay pacific's website before I get my ticket - I don't work, so I am very flexible in terms of when I leave, so I just see if they have promotions on or not. I go when they have cheap tickets (usually business class - last time I went to HK I got a ticket for 800,000 return on business and Letty paid just 100,000!). |

Cebu airlines actually has a direct flight to/from Korea that isn't one most people know about. I think it stops over in Manila, so it could be a Korea-Manila or a Korea-Cebu flight. Pretty good prices, if you can get a seat. |

My advice:
Check out the airlines websites but if you want the best deals for flights to and from asia find your nearnest chinatown travel agency. They have the best deals.
In Korea, this is harder but there are a few decent travel agents that give you deals here too.
Going to the airline website is really hit and miss (as was mentionned before). Air Canada for example has completely ridiculous prices for Canada-Korea flights on their website.
Also, try to fly on weekdays instead of weekends and look for seat sales (yes that means planning ahead some). |

After searching around frantically to get a ticket to Thailand over the lunar holiday I found out it was not only cheaper, but easier to just go on line and book a ticket with the airline, myself. Agents had waitlisted me and were charging at least 70.000 more. |
