Hey guys,

As you know by now I have a position lined up at E2 Institute in Changwon, supposed to be leaving on the 20th of this month.

Well, they have all my paperwork, signed contract etc, they got it the Wednesday before Christmas. Then I didn't hear from them. I emailed to find out what was going on, when their side of the paperwork was heading my way etc, then yesterday I am told that it's a new building I will be working in (I already knew this) but they still need the Fire Dept to come & inspect before a rego number is issued, thus making it legal to employ me, get paperwork for visa etc.

I had to fork out my OWN money for the airfare and now it's going to cost me to change the date to 1 week later (which they have asked me to do). Should I be panicking, give up and find another job? Also, if I did, they now have a signed contract from me etc. If I pull out now, can they still blacklist me even though I have technically not started work yet, or even have the visa? I really cannot afford to wait around here at home any longer- I am running out of money and this is costing me more! Man I am getting fed up with this mob already Evil or Very Mad !

Unless you have heard something detrimental about your new employer you PROBABLY shouldn't worry. My guess is that things are just as they say they are. Even in western countries plans don't always work out the way we hope. Inspectors don't always inspect when they say they will.

It's unfortunate that you may be out of pocket for the fee for changing your departure date but that's life.

I would be inclined to give them the benefit of the doubt.

I don't agree entirely with TJ. Can you get a refund on your airfare? You are running out of time with the consulate if you have to leave this early and immigration hasn't issued you a visa number yet.

Why isn't this hogwan paying for your airfare upfront? There was your first mistake. Too many horror stories out there to foot that kind of bill just to wind up on the short end of the stick.

I would tell that director you can NOT afford to pay any more $ for this change and if they are serious about hiring they should pay for it and not you. If not, tell them to forget sending your paper work to immigration and you aren't interested anymore. Move on. That's what I would do.

TJ- That's exactly my thinking, I'm probably just being paranoid. I have checked various blacklists (including here) and haven't heard a bad word about this place.

Lemonade- Maybe that was a mistake (airfare)- however, I actually had to choose between this and another great position. Despite having to pay airfare I chose this because of their professionalism, the way they treated teachers, training etc. But yes, 1 more screw around and that's it, they've heard the last of me!

But does anyone know if I DID ditch the positon at this point, can they still blacklist me and ensure I don't find another job?
