I've never done it. I consider myself well travelled with thirty five countries under the belt, but I've never even been to the southern hemisphere and seen the water go the wrong way, let alone crossed the International Date Line.

For those who have, how many more sunrises have you seen, or how many less, than someone born on the same day as you who never travelled?

I'd be very impressed if anyone has been around more than twice.

I've sailed many a sea, and been to many a country by ship...but not around the world in one shot, no.

I'm a shellback and have met Neptunus Rex and his Royal court, as a pollywog of course Wink

Yeah, a few times.

Usually I just go back and forth between US and Asia.

But a few times I went from Asia to Europe to South America back to North America (and ultimately starting the process again).

Another time Asia to Europe back to North America.

I go all over the place.. and by default went around the world a couple times.. but these days I just prefer the Americas and Asia.

Yes, through an airline alliance deal. My trip was good, though I'm sure some others have been better.

Once, around the world, in a westerly direction, in all the several hemispheres. Took me five years to finish the trip. Other than that, it's been North America to Europe, or North America to Asia.

Or Jeomchon to Gumi, Boise to Pocatello, etc., etc.....

As for the international date line, since most of us are from North America, I can only assume most people here have crossed it going west at least one time more than they've crossed it going the other way, which gives us all one more sunrise.

Never been around the world at once, although if I ever travel west of here as far as Kathmandu, technically that would be one complete revolution several years in the making, since I returned to the US from there via Europe before coming to Korea.

planning a trip currently... Slated departure is 12/06-3/07 (depnding on the severity of weather). Trip schedule (tentative due to politics and chance):
Korea->China_>Vietnam->Cambodia->Laos->Thailand->Bhutan->Tibet->Mongolia->Tibet->Nepal->Thailand->India->Pakistan->Kazakstan OR Iran->Turkey->Egypt->Greece->Italy->France->Spain->Aregentina->Bolivia->Brazil_>Venezuela->Carribean->Belize->Guatemala->Mexico->Cross country USA LA-DC

Rules of engagement: No planes. No time limits
Stupid answer to stupid question: Atlantic ocean will hopefully be crossed by boat, barring that, plane my be required.
Looking for: Partners (as short or long as you want), well-wishers, Advice on things to see or places to stay

In '93 I used American Airlines partnered with Singapore Airlines for an around-the-world ticket that cost $3500 BUSINESS CLASS. The extra $1000 was probably my best splurge ever! Honolulu-LA-Chicago-Brussels-Bombay-Kathmandu-Singapore-Bangkok-Taipei-Hong Kong-Seoul-LA-Honolulu.

Would you like another glass of Moet-Chandon before our departure this morning Mr. Krainium? Not to mention use of all the business class lounges at the airports!

Anyone buying an around-the-world ticket should check the price difference between economy and business.

I agree on going Business Class, for the obvious reasons. I spent a lot of time in an airplane, so might as well be something to look forward to. Plus, access to business class lounges was a treat, with the alcohol bar and pastry/cereal bar, newspaper rack, internet-- Hong Kong even has a mini sauna and nap rooms. I especially liked the annoucements, "It is exactly 7 minutes 45 seconds walk from this lounge to Gate 15, for boarding for Flight 45 to London. I repeat, only 7 minutes 45 seconds you must spend with the unwashed masses before boarding. Enjoy your flight!"
