|
|
I hope someone who has been in this situation before can help me. Let me give you the background. I will finish my current contract on 8/31. My alien registration card expires on 8/21 (one year from the day I entered the country in '02), but this isn't the problem. My E-2 visa expires on 7/21 and I don't fly out until 8/4. So, the problem is that I'm scheduled to fly out about two weeks after the work visa expires but before both the ARC and contract expire.
Anyway, I called immigration the other day (in Taejon) and tried to explain the situation to them. For some reason, I could not get the guy to understand and he kept insisting that I would need a new visa. I'm sure this isn't the case.
My question is, can one extend a current visa for a few weeks until the departure date? Is the visa the controlling document or the ARC? Anyone been in this situation before? Also, might you know what documents are needed to facilitate any extension. Thanks in advance for any help. |

ARC rules (my E2 expired years ago). But you probably need to address the discrepancy between your ARC & contract finish date. That should be an easy extension request & small fee. |

It's funny how I couldn't get such a simple answer from immigration. Actually, I don't need to worry about the ARC since I'm flying out before it expires and not returning. Thanks for your help. |
