Okay so I'm coming to Korea and I'm very excited but I have coulple of questions that maybe you vets can help me with...
So there are a couple of things I would like to have while in Korea, my own camera, a laptop, a cell phone (maybe) and some sort of i pod thing. I feel that I would get more state of the art products if I bought them in Korea. Is this true? Would it be more or less expensive than if I get them in the States?
and, I'm a bit worried about getting my hair done. Does anybody know of any salons in Soeul or Incheon that cater to black women's hair. I have an idea that if I go to a Korean salon, over here in the US, and ask them to write down my exact instructions that I should be fine. Does this make sense?
thanks ahead of time for any advice... |

You would be better off buying a computer and camera outside Korea as it is virtually impossible to find them in Korea with English instruction manuals and software like XP MS
Cellphones are nowadays obtainable with English menus, although the voice feedback from the Korean telecom companies is still all in Korean. |

Laptops are cheaper in Korea. Digital cameras are not - buy one in your home country. Try to arrange with your employer to get a handphone ahead of time - basically it would be in their name but the bills would come from your bank account.
As for hair - I have very thick, curly brown hair and Korean hairdressers seem a bit puzzled by it - they'll be downright dumbfounded by yours. I'd suggest poking around Itaewon and even just asking some GI wives or Nigerians who are out and about where they get their hair done and if they have any suggestions. |

That idea of going to a Korean hairdresser and getting instructions written down, is really quite clever. I wish I'd thought of it. Of course, you could always get your hair cut in Itaewon by the people who cater to the US military. |

Prices aside, on every camera I've seen in Korea you can change the menus to english, and if the instruction book doesn't come with an english bit, just get it off the internet- it'll take about 3 minutes. Like someone said though, it'll probably be cheaper at Walmart or Amazon, and then you can take photos of your journey
With a new computer you just ask for the english version of Windows when you buy it- dead simple.
Don't buy a cell phone in the US to use over here as it won't work- it's a different system or band or whatever.
Good luck! |

I did - it didn't help. They still wanted to give me the Kim Jong-Il special. |

Actually, advise does work in this context, as it means to offer advice to someone, recommend something, or counsel in some way. It is being used in a "please advise me on what to do" way, rather than a "please give me advice" way. |

try 'family hair shop' in itaewon. most of the girls that work there have worked on the youngsan base before and all speak really good english so you can tell them what you want done. they also do nails, highlights, eyebrow waxing, weaves, extensions...
it's across the road from 'Puma' |

No way! C'mon, you're not gonna tell me that you meant to say "advise please!" You totally thought you were writing the form of the word that rhymes with mice. Admit it!
Advise, please? Who talks like that? Are you a robot? "Advise please! Need Input! " |

An actual i-Pod is cheaper in the States. Other types of mp3 players you might find cheaper here. |

Are you sure about that? My experience has been completely the opposite. Laptops in the states start at around $700, and are usually more up-to-date technologically than the Samsung crap they sell here. |

Believe it or not, I did mean it the way it came out. If you refer to my original statement I used both forms of the word in discussion. Thus, the use of the word advise was TOTALLY INTENTIONAL .
But you are entitled to believe what you want so thats that I guess
And BTW, Im still waiting for you to advise me on what I asked about Thanks |
