hey all,
i'm trying to get my parents to send along a laptop to me in korea with a friend who is coming here soon. the said friend is also bringing her own laptop. my dad is hesitating to send the laptop with the friend, because he's worried that it will cause a fuss at customs.. he thinks that if she's bringing in more than one, they will confiscate it or give her a hard time. on the contrary, i do not see being an issue at ALL. but i need to convince my worrisome father! anyone have any info, or know where i can find out korean customs' policy on bringing more than one laptop into the country?? thanks,

I have brought 2 notebooks with me.
They were both in notebook cases, I had one on each arm.
Just have a good reason and your set. One was personal, the other was work. They never asked a question about the notebooks. |

I think customs will only get concerned if they think you are bringing things in with the intention of selling them. I think that if you had a good explanation for having two notebooks it won't be a problem. If you had ten notebook computers, then I would be worried.
I seem to remember that upon my arrival in Korea there were no questions asked about anything I had. I just sailed right through. |

One other thing when you do get it here. Make sure you have the receipt if you are taking it back home. I had no problem bringing mine to Korea but I sent it home by UPS as I was travelling Thailand for several weeks.
UPS would not deliver it until it was released from Canadian customs - that required me to show the receipt for the purchase in Canada. Thanks to my Director in Korea who mentioned this problem - I was prepared and faxed them the receipt when I arrived in Canada. Delivery by UPS next day. |

So should you declare your laptop with customs whenever you fly? |

Many airlines don't allow two carry-ons these days, but they will allow one carry-on plus a "business item" which can include a laptop bag. Just an irrelevant side note there. |

You don't have to declare a laptop. So best not to say anything. Odds are you won't be asked a single question going through Korean customs. Having passed through Korean customs four times, I've almost never had a single question asked. The first time I was wearing a suit and the guy just confirmed I was coming as a tourist and not on business. That's about it. |
