I'm beginning to worry about the level of christian threads on here.

Are we simply a conveniently grouped bunch of unbelievers for the evangelical types like Fiveagles to try and convert?

If he's evangelical then he won't stop you know......

It will become like a form of messageboard spam. Another christian thread. Another christian thread.....

It really could mess up the board if the christians are allowed to spam us with thread after thread.

They will make it seem like it's all in the cause of healthy discussion but the real deal is that their church leaders tell them to try and recruit and convert whenever and however possible. Be wary.

Will you also abandon the Hindu / Bhuddist / New Age type threads that come up sometimes, attacking the authors?

If you hate sports, will you be complaining that everyone is trying to turn you into an athlete?

The movie threads, the political threads... whatever the thread, choose what you want to read and pass by those that you don't want to.

Always black and white with Christians, isn't it? The OP said he was worried about the level of Christian posts (ie how there are so many). If only "sometimes" they popped up the OP wouldn't have a problem (like the Buddhist, New Age, and Hindu ones). Pretty easy to see this from the OP's post.
This goes for everything. People are really tired of the American/Canadian or anti-Korean ones too.

heh heh

The nice thing about message boards is:

You can choose your poison...nobody forces you to log on to a specific post.

You can rebut with relative anonimity. Right 5birdies Wink

Its an entertaining waste of time.

Ok, Grotto, I am going to bite.

Here are a few changes I would like to see to the board.

1. There should be a section on Daves esl cafe where there should be no religion/politics. You don't like religion/politics then that's the place to post.

2. I would like to see a section where those who have posted with regularity could post in. Those who are recent have to wait their turn. I think that would help eliminate some of the poison.

3. I think more people should link from their profiles to who they are. In some cases, hiding behind a fake identity is a easy way to throw poison without facing the consequences. This is what I like about Joe. He lets us all know who he is, a bit too much for my liking, but I respect that.

4. Dave should buy a boxing ring. All other disputes could be settled in the ring. If violence of this sort is cringed upon, then lets have a basketball or football match. It easy to be misunderstood on a messageboard.

Motley Crue's "Shout At The Devil" - pro or anti Satan? Discuss.

He's the wolf screaming lonely in the night
He's the blood stain on the stage
He's the tear in your eye
Been tempted by his lie
He's the knife in your back
He's rage
He's the razor to the knife
Oh, lonely is our lives
My heads spinnin' round and round
But in the seasons of wither
We'll stand and deliver
Be strong and laugh and

[Chorus:]
Shout-shout-shout
Shout at the devil

He'll be the love in your eyes
He'll be the blood between your thighs
And then have you Cry for more
He'll put strength to the test
He'll put the thrill back in bed
Sure you've heard it all before
He'll be the risk in the kiss
Might be anger on your lips
Might run scared for the door
But in seasons of wither
We'll stand and deliver
Be strong and laugh and

[Chorus:]

That's the whole point, threads on Hinduism and Buddhism threads are extremely rare. Christian threads are not rare at the moment, and they are way out of proportion with that amount of people interested in them.

Two things here, sports are popular with a much larger group of posters than chrisianity. Second, sport is not contentious in the same way. Arguing about Lakers versus Saints just ain't in the same ball park as arguing about whether Jesus was the son of god.

It exists, but you have it backwards. The current affairs area is where your stuff should go, and not in the other forums.

I think a problem with posting "Christian" threads in the "Current Affairs" forum is that popular Christian theology and evangelism is widely regarded as "anti-intellectual", and that forum is dominated by a somewhat more intellectual group of ex-pats - some of whom only post in that forum. (Of course, politics may by the lowest common denominator...)

So basically they is a bunch of sissy boys to afraid to go rumble in Current Affairs?

hmmmm well truth be told I tend to stay out of that column as well, but on the other hand if the Jesus Squad is avoiding that neck of the woods might be a good place to look into (And get eaten alive).

Actually, I don't think it's a good idea to exile Christian threads - or anything related to God and morality - to any particular forum. If God exists, He can go anywhere he damn well pleases...

There can reasonably be religious posts (not heavy preaching, of course) on the "Job Discussion" forum - many private schools are run by Christian organizations, and I'm sure they employ a significant number of native English speakers.

On the "General Living" forum there certainly can be threads notifying Christians (and followers of other major religions) where religious programs and activities may be taking place. (Again, heavy preaching wouldn't be appropriate there, but I think the anti-religious fanatics are agitated just by seeing the words "God" or "Christ" or "sin" in the title of threads... ) Christians may also want to post threads advertising religious themed excursions (or whatever) in the "Travel" forum...

As far as in-depth discussion of religious or philosophical topics, I think that the "Off Topic" forum would usually be appropriate - although many religious discussions - especially the comparitive type - would be suitable under "Current Events". It's understandable that people in general who usually don't want to be reminded of God - especially an already familiar, exclusivist, sectarian notion of God - (and sin) will become very agitated by numerous religious threads running simultaneously. Ergo, it would probably good PR strategy for religious propagandists of the same sect to just concentrate on one - or at most two - threads at a time. But, that's entirely up to them... (There is no inherent privacy right to be free from having to witness "God" in the titles of Internet threads, and there is no legitimate right to block the free exercise of religious expression on a quasi-public forum...)

Quite sensible actually. There you go. Maybe Budda people are less extreme than the christians afterall! Wink

You're missing the point.

The sports threads are not trying to convert. No one on the English premiership Prediction Thread gives a damn if you join in or not. The political threads are trying to convert but that's because everyone has a political opinion. No matter how apolitical you pretend to be you must have a say as it affects your daily life.

I'm suggesting that the point of the christian threads is not to have a discussion but to convert. It's the slippery slope which leads to any group using this forum as a means to preach to an unsuspecting audience.
