It's such a huge topic and people obviously are eager to discuss it, so let's have another forum for Philosophy/Religion/Spirituality.
Whaddya say! Please vote! |

I agree with Satori, it will become too fragmented.
I think off topic forums and current events are suitable. You don't like the name of the thread then don't read it. Caveat Emperor |

I'm all for it.
I'm still concerned about sneak-attacks and hijackings in the middle of secular threads, though.
Hopefully, a forum explicitly dedicated to "Philosophy/Religion/Spirituality" will decrease this behaviour. |

I think having its own forum would keep people with *absolutely* no interest from having to read even the thread titles. For instance I know nothing about techonology. Couldn't care less. So I absolutely *never* go in the tech forum, and the people who are interested in that topic are nice enough to center their discussions in an appropriate place.
This is the idea behind different forums. It's a sound principle.
"Religion" is about as current an event as crucifixion. When the rapture occurs, that's a current event. And I will start a thread on the Current Event forum myself since the rest of you will be otherwise occupied. |

| "Zero-tolerance" policies should only be instituted against things that are extremely harmful - not merely annoying. The "Off-Topic" Forum should maintain its function as a place where ideas can be freely exchanged without unnecessary curtailment of religious ideas (which occur in relatively few threads and which serve the healthy function of counterbalencing some of the many threads and posts promoting hedonistic excesses that have actually caused harm, giving ex-pat teachers a bad reputation in our host country...) |

By nature of religion and its prosetylizing character, the "sneak attacks" will continue. I find it offensive to talk about religion, personally, especially in that mindless glazed-eye way (that's just me), but I just don't think making another forum or thread will be enough for some people.
If such a forum or thread were to exist, I would visit it whenever I wanted to (although I don't ever think that often), but it's the zealots that won't keep the rules.
I think that putting that thread in the current events forum would be tasteless and wrong. Maybe the Travel Forum (because you are thinking of a certain kind of travel) or the buy/sell/trade forum (because it is a pitch after all). There, it would be like the uncle we never talk about but visit in secret because of guilt over something. It would be our confessional. We go there only when we absolutely need to and when we're "lookin po nub in all the wrong places...lookin, lookin, lookin po nub~" |
