A friend of mine said burgers are on their way out in Korea, even the kind you eat at McDonald's and other fast food joints. He said the reason is some well-being movement that has spread from the West to Korea.

And another strange thing, he said noraebangs are also seeing bad business since many people do not go as much as they used to. Anyone care to agree or disagree?

i don't see any change in the number of noraebangs in my city. even the old crusty looking ones are still here. i have noticed korean nightclubs having a rough go, though

i agree with that healthy food movement though. organic food shops are doing well here and lots of restaurants offer "well 'bing'" food. there were two McD's within a few kilometers of my place that have closed down recently.

on a side note...im very happy to see that those super long toed, pickle-stabber shoes seem to have died out. girls actually had to adjust their stride in order to keep the tips from scraping the ground as they walked.
made em look like trotting horses.

On a contrary note, those crazy "gameland" casinos seem to be popping up everywhere. In the last 3 months I've seen about half a dozen appear overnight here in Bucheon

the McDonalds in Hongdae just closed down- it's now a coffee shop. You don't see much Von Dutch around these days either, and I haven't seen an ajumma visor for a blessed-long spell.

The gameland casinos are really coming in fast. Four opened at the same time next to each other. I mean days apart.

Squat toilets.

Er... possibly.

Um, maybe just wishful thinking...

Compared with years past, I don't notice as many Korean strangers wanting to strike up a conversation.

Well, fewer junk food outlets won't do anyone any harm, you feel.

As for noraebang, well, it's boring if you ask me. Not a vintage Korean form of entertainment.

When has demand ever controlled supply in Korea?

I think one of the reasons for the declining popularity of noraebang is that people are getting home setups.
