My American brothers!!

We Canuckleheads are starting to die in Afghanistan. Are we winning your respect yet?

We are about to elect a "pro-American" governement, will that garner your respect? We may once again outlaw those crazy things like gay marriage and abortion (I'm gonna throw in a " Wink " for those of you that didn't pick up on the sarcasm)

Can we go back to the good old days of y'all speaking of us in affectionate terms like "puck-loving, maple syrup making, tree-huggers?"

Surely our, soon-to-be-prime minister- mini-Bush is winning the hearts of our splendid neighbors to the south.

Let's all be friends now.

Hippy.

I'd rather be buddy buddy with the yanks then be their enemy.

The "abortion" thing was sarcastic, the rest of it is just lame humor to get across a real point.

I'm all for being buddy buddy with the Yanks. Dang, I'm from Toronto, I practically am a Yank.

I hate the whinny Canadians (i suspect mostly east-coasters) on this board that scrap with Americans.

I agree that it is lame humor. But I don't understand the point. Question

The way I read it sounded as though you were on the liberal side.

I took a whole other take on the Canadian election.. was thinking that if a conservative won.. then the 'i hate americans' Canadians wouldn't have as much ammunition to bash Americans so much.. it would drastically decrease.

I don't think 99.9999% of Americans would really care what goes on in Canada politically.. its just the lecturing about it from Canadians how superior and amazing they are that wears on them.

I had an opposing view on the matter, that if the Conservatives win it will show that anti-Americanism is not nearly as big a factor as it's often made out to be here - that you can't just play the "US is so scary" card like Martin is doing and expect Canadians to line up and follow along. You'll notice that the US hasn't even been featured in the election, or even mentioned in the debates. Only in Liberal attack ads will you find the US being mentioned, and that's because they're desperate. Neither of our countries talks about the other during an election unless it's directly related (ie, "you would have supported sending troops to Iraq, why?" sorth of thing).

As stupid as the Liberals are I still would rather have them win. The Liberals made one of the worst campaigns ever (for a second I actually thought maybe conservative would be better) but I still don't want the conservatives to win. To be honest, if the Liberals had just said nothing and slept during the debates, they would probably be better off Wink

I guess not much of a point. Just making a plea to stop bashing us and that they now have reasons to stop.

It was excellent humor Cool Obviously just too sophistaced for the likes of you (I kid).

Yeah, if Harper actually wins it, I think that's pretty much gonna be the end of flag-waving, beer-identifying, pot-glorifying backpacker nationalism. Not that the maple-leaf bandana crowd won't be giving it the old college try:

Canadian: "Oh yeah, dude. I'm from Canada, man. CANADA!!

Korean: Ah, Canada, good country!

C: Right on dude, you know it. Hey, those freakin' Americans, eh? They elect a bunch of homophobic politicians who trash gay marriage. Up in Canada, we put in gay marriage BEFORE we elected the homophobic politicians. Pretty smart, eh?

K: Canada, very good country!! Canada capital Vancouver!

Just turn that frown upside down because you knew you had the best of intentions, it just sort of turned out, well... lame.
