How early can you obtain your next school's E-2 before your current contract ends? Is it illegal to do it TOO early.... like a month in advance of finishing the contract with the first school?
Does it have to be done between contracts? |

In order to get your next visa, you need to go and cancel your previous visa, you can't have a visa for one school and work in another.
That is in a perfect world....
But, with this being Korea.....
As long as both your current and future employer agree, you might be able to have your old visa cancelled and get another one (though that MIGHT involve going to Japan, which is 2 days of not working for you) and finish the old contract.
But all that hinges on if both bosses agree.
But then again, you must also realize that a school is only alotted a certain number of slots open to get an E2. If they go over that quota, then an investigation might occur.
Just check with both your bosses first before making any step, that would be a wise move |

I would be afraid of my first employer saying, "Oh, you didn't complete your full contract, so no bonus...."
Wow, that means I have 2 days between contracts to do this in Japan.. ouch. |

Yes, you must do it between contracts. You work under your visa at your current school. You can't work there without your current E2. Then you'll work under your new E2 at your new school. And yes, your current employer could legally claim that you had quit without notice if you got a new E2 while under contract to him/her. Keep your current boss happy. You should get a letter of release from the current job even if you finish the contract. (You might not need it, but you should get it.) |

Ok, now I am a bit worried......
My school went and applied for my new E-2 visa. But of course I have to leave and hand in my ARC card from this job to go to Japan to get it all done.
What they did didn't void my current E-2, did it? I'm not going to suddenly go there and find, next month, that I have been here without a visa and get fined/incarcerated for not having a valid E-2 or travelers visa anymore, I hope? |

I'm sure that your new place can get the paperwork processing started. Why not? They'll be giving immigration your new contract with the date that will begin after your current place's contract expires, right? Immigration also knows about your current visa. Maybe they're trying to make sure that you'll have the certificate of visa issuance number when it's most convenient for you to get to Japan and back with ease? I would ask the new place about it - you'll probably be fine. |
