Does anyone have a Lonely Planet for China that you want to sell?
(or any other source of info for getting around Beijing without a tour group.)
I would like to see the great wall and t-square at least... only going to be there for 3 days. How far is that stuff from the airport? |

I've got one for Beijing and another for China, but I promised to loan the China one to a friend. If you're going to Beijing, you'll be fine with the city guide- there's a section on the great wall in there too. PM me if you're interested.
There are lots of hotels within walking distance of Tiennmen Sq, and most of them will arrange day trips to various parts the Great wall and other sites. I'd chose one from the LP guide, then book a room there from www.sinohotel.com - they get good discounts |

How long does it take to get a visa for China?
I think I am going to end up there for my winter vacation. |

It depends on your Nationality. If you are NOT American then it is w35000 and 4 days for regular service. 55,000 and 2 days expidited and 90, 000 for same day service.
If you are American then it starts at w60,000 for 4 day service and I don't know about the cost of expidited service.
Take a passport photo with you as well.
The embassy/consul is located on the 9th floor in the Kyobo building in Jongno (Kyobo book store). They are ONLY open in the mornings 9am-12noon for visa service. |

The visa office is somewhere near myeongdong now, but if you're a lazy arse like me, you can ask the travel agent to handle the visa for you. Xanadu travel handled mine for an extra ten thou on top of the visa fees.
Oh, and Asiana has a decent seat sale for some cities in China. If you're on any sort of budget, it might be worth checking out. |
