My favourite sequence goes something like this:

Touchdown. 5 slow motion replays of the touchdown. Possible 3 minutes of "review". 3 minutes of ads. Back for the extra point kick. 3 minutes of ads. Back for the kickoff, it's recieved. 3 minuts of ads. Back to the action.

Time elapsed: 15 minutes. Playtime off the clock: 30 seconds.

Edge-of-the-seat stuff.

Just for balance, here's the play by play for a recent soccer game:

Quote:

Someone dribbled the ball downfield where it was stole by another player who
Dribbled the ball downfield where it was stolen by another player who
Dribbled the ball downfield where it was stoled by another player who
Dribbled the ball downfield where it was stolen by another player who

Said, its getting dark and we should go home.

As usual, the game ended in a 0-0 tie. They say a tie is like kissing your sister but when I kiss my sister I dont have to put on special shoes. And Im allowed to use my hands, although I choose not to.

or as the simpsons put it:

Quote:

TV Announcer: The Continental Soccer Association is coming to Springfield! It's all here--fast-kicking, low scoring, and ties? You bet!
Bart: Hey, Homer, how come you've never taken us to see a soccer game?
Homer: I...don't know.
TV Announcer: You'll see all your favorite soccer stars. Like Ariaga! Ariaga II! Bariaga! Aruglia! And Pizzoza!
Homer: Oh, I never heard of those people.
TV Announcer: And they'll all be signing autographs!
Homer: Woo-hoo!
TV Announcer: This match will determine once and for all which nation is the greatest on earth: Mexico or Portugal!

This is my first post and i've been waiting to debate this for a while...

Football is single-handedly the greatest sport ever invented. It's not speculation, it's a mathematical fact. I'm pretty sure its mentioned in the bible (look closer). Hockey, though wanting to be like football, is done on skates. I would like to note that figure skating uses skates as well...coincidence, I think not.

I've had this debate with a Canadian friend and we decided that Canada can have hockey and America gets football. (Also, they would immediately disband the CFL, as it embarrases everyone involved). He said it like it was a punishment when really, its a total weight of my shoulders.

Three simple facts:
1.) Dan Marino could so kick Wayne Gretzky's @$$
2.) The lack of African-American athletes in hockey creates a restriction based on social status and racial bias. (Hopefully hockey gets more black athletes because I'd prob start watching to see the whooping they'd lay down)
3.) The NHL collapsed for a year. Life went on.

Hockey and Football are about as compatible as Oil and Water or French Fries and Gravy...so, you can keep hockey, EH!

While some sports are really fun to play, they aren't as exciting to watch.
Growing up, I played almost every sport that was available, I think I can hear my dad now..... "It'll make you a better person, so don't disappoint me." (hmmmm... somethings messed up there.)

I really enjoy playing baseball, it's great, it takes a lot of skills and you can make flashy plays. But.... I don't like watching it on tv. The main reason is because of this sequence:
pitch
try to pick the guy off at first
try to pick the guy off at first
try to pick the guy off at first
try to pick the guy off at first
fake throw to first base
try to pick the guy off at first
pitch

and repeat. It kills me to watch baseball now. I do watch the world series, but that is about the only game of the year I watch.

Hockey is also awesome, a Korean would saw "many greatest" or something like that. It is the best sport to play, in my opinion, and it really tests all the abilities. The problem with hockey on tv is that some people (we all know who they are) have a hard time seeing the puck (remember the flashy red/blue circle to highlight the puck? So LAME!) so they don't like watching. I mean, it's hard to see a black puck on white ice, right? Most have never played because they can't skate, so they have no attachment to the sport.

Other sports have other problems on tv, as well. I don't really like football, but like other said, only because I think it is boring to watch.

And also at one point Canada had 3 black guys on the national team, one arguably being the best player in the world now.

Also, nothing like a tough French, black guy to scare the crap out of you. Georges Laroque (spelling?)

well this is another World Cup year, so a good chance to see why that one sport attracts bigger TV audiences than all of the rest of the sports put together (otherwise known as 'the Olympics').

How many people watch the Superbowl by the way? The only time I've seen any of it is when Janet Jackson flashed her tats.

Hockey is cool, but unfortunately, Canada feels fine putting suckerslamming, career crippling thugs on our national team too!

It has nothing to do with who did what outside of hockey. It is to show off the best players in the world. What about the criminals on other countries national sports teams? It happens everywhere.

I was talking about Todd Bertuzzi. I barely even watch hockey and I know about him.

Sorry, was thinking about Danny Heatley, my bad. Concerning Todd Bertuzzi, I have seen a lot dirtier of plays in hockey, but just didn't have the same outcome of 5 guys piling onto the injured person.

Well, the Grey Cup is older than the NFL, isn't it?

And...French fries and gravy is good eating, especially if it's covered in cheese.

Just because many people watch something doesn't make it a physically/mentally taxing sport. However, one thing is for certain, all those who have to endure watching a soccer match must find it physically and mentally taxing. I don't know how someone can sit through the entire thing without losing their marbles.

Being a horse jockey is about as pysically/mentally taxing as being a disc jockey.

Edit: Sorry. I thot this was the other thread. That's what happens when threads start to stray I guess.

soccer: -12

Again, you can't argue with experts.

Actually, the experts (and they're American) say something quite different:

Oh, this part may also be of interest:

American football came last on the list, and so was labelled the least exciting sport.
