Here is my situation:

I bought a one-way ticket to Seoul (on United Airlines) and am going to travel from Seoul to Busan (by train with stops) and am then going to take the ferry to Fukuoka and travel to Tokyo. From Tokyo I am flying one-way back to Seoul.

When I originally planned this little trip I thought that I would be arriving in Seoul (the first time...from Canada) with a work visa. However, after reading postings here and looking for jobs I'm thinking that I might want to just look for a job when I am in Seoul as this way I can maybe get a better deal.

I'm just worried though that I will have a problem with the one-way ticket out of Canada and possibly out of Tokyo back to Seoul.

Does anyone have any thoughts on this situation???? Any help is appreciated.

You can book the ferry ticket online at Kangsan travel's site, and that will count as your ticket out of Korea, or so I'm told.

Hi fellow Torontonian.

A trip from Japan to Korea will not require a return ticket to (Canada or elsewhere) to enter Korea. I went to the immigration in Mokdong last year and they told me that I don't need one when coming from Japan. I just went to Japan on Wednesday for a 2 week holiday and had no issues.

To enter Korea the first time they may require a return ticket to Canada. I was told by my travel agent that I could not buy a one way ticket to Korea. I would contact the airline and see what they say.

I agree that looking for work inside Korea is much better. They like to operate fast, and may pressure you take a job before your ready. If you are here, you check out the housing, area and facilities. It seems some schools have been known to stretch the truth a little regarding these things.

Keep in mind once you have a job and are working on a travelers visa, you will be an illegal worker, until your E2 paperwork is completed. (This part Im not sure how it works, others Im sure can help you)

Also make sure your paperwork in good order, immigration may focus on Canadians a little more, due to some fake BA's that were floating around.

Good luck

I am not sure if Canada is different the the USA, but I wanted to let you know that I have flown to Korea from the USA on two different occasions using a one way ticket and having no visa. Both times I was flying United Airlines and I was never questioned.

I just flew 1-way into seoul from BKk without visa, they hassled me before boarding and wanted to see an onward ticket, so be careful! (Asiana airlines).Same thing happened last time.. i just said don't worry I have plenty of money and showed them a bank balance slip and couple of unused travellers cheques. they took my passport for a while and made a few calls but it was ok.

No questions asked at incheon though..
