Where do you plan on staying in Thailand? Bangkok is only good for a few days, then i would head up north to Chiangmai. Pai is a very nice place to visit. You would be surprised how nice some guesthouses are up north for that price.

In Chiangmai most guesthouses are from 150 on up a night. I have a german friend in chiangmai with a nice place I can recommend to you, his rooms are nice and clean for 200-250 a night or you can ask him what he is currently charging by the week.
