I think you mean 'DongIncheon'. I use to live near city hall which is east of that area. I can sum up Incheon pretty good I believe. That place has just got so much potential to be a great city but isn't really.
The Dongincheon area has some nice parkspace around it and it's not to far from the sea. Get to Wolmido (coastal prominade). Get a taxi there before you walk in or you will be put off by the industrial nature of buildngs and factories as you go there but once you get through that to the other side it's really nice there. An ideal place for a good drinking session IMHO.
Bring a camera or take a boat ride to one of the islands there too if you can. Incheon has to my knowledge the largest chinese community in Korea (probably becasue its the biggest port facing china..
Go to Chinatown - very near Wolmido. That's a cool place. Great Chinese food and culture. lanterns everywhere....
If you want Western things don't expect much. I would say that Incheon is a very Korean city. You're not all that far from Seoul there and it's well hooked up by train which is another plus.
If you like the sea and want to experience asian cuolture in Korea, it's a good place. But, I'm sure you will find people here who have nothing nice to say about Incheon in general. I highly reccomend learning as much Korean as you can if you're going to be there. Plenty of nice women (if you're a man..) but that's Korea in general. I do like the chinese flavor that seems to exist in the Dongincheon area and there's good cheap shopping there too. I'd learn Korean and try and make some Korean friends if you're there. It's not a Westernised area. I guarantee you there are much worse places to be in Korea. If you get lucky there and do it right, that place has so much to offer. Incheon in general has so much unrealised potential, largely due to industrialization mistakes of the past.
Good luck! |

How could I forget the big G.M. and C.F.? They're staples in the concrete jungle of Gyeyang. |

Yep, when the best thing you can say about a Gu is that it has four supermarkets, it's time to move. |

I live in Shin Hyun Dong, in Saw Gu. My nearest station (its about 25mins away) is Dongam. I have been here 4 months and never seen a white person in my area. I am the only westerner at my school (of course).
I cant wait to move to Bundang. On Friday night I spent 2 and a half hours teavelling to hang out with friends.
Does anyone have information about leaving one job mid-contract to move to another (and the other is ok with you ditching the original job)? A new thread I think..... |
