Sorry, I missed the joke.
laogaiguk, it depends on the restrictions that would come out of it. I don't think homosexuality should be a crime like Texas once thought or many other countries think.
However, religious freedoms shouldn't be repressed either. We are pretty close to where saying homosexuality is evil will send you to jail. Now with the conservatives in government, it will be a few more years, but if the NDP or liberals gain control...it won't take long. 5 years under a Liberal or NDP government.
Look at the EU and what happened in the selection of the head of its affairs. The first guy was a catholic and didn't accept homosexuality so was sacked in the process. Europe will be the first to pass such restrictions on the bible and what you can say. |

There should be no restrictions on the bible because the bible should never come up in any politics. Religious freedoms should be kept in the personal area and I would fight if they tried to change that, but keep your 2000 year old bigotry to yourself please. I have no need of it in my life. Homosexual marriage hurts no one, so no problem. Murder does, so lets restrict that. Why isn't coveting your neighbour's wife against the law if you really want to get into the homosexual marriage issue? And if we did that, where would we stop? |

| Well, I would have liked the Liberals to win...but I've never been fond of Paul Martin. There was something icky about having a Prime Minister who owned ships that flew the flag of the Bahamas (a tax haven). |

What a disgusting insult. When I hear things like this, I meditate on such verses,
"Blessed are you when they revile you and say evil of you, for great is your name in Heaven."
I guess I should know better than offer an opinion on the ever holy and controversial subject of homosexuality.

Stephen Harper backs the Missile Defense System--which costs too much, doesn't work and isn't needed. Higher taxes and gutted social programs coming because this is an "every men for himself from the end of a gun" variety of politician.

He's a mini-Bush; get ready to lose a lot of international goodwill towards Canada.
Lets hope his minority gov't is kept in check by the more sane, secular humanist elements in the country. |

Keep it out of politics (that is what I mean by keeping it personal). Have you already forgetten in another thread that I said I would actually stand up for Christians if the government ever forced you to perform gay marriages. That would be taking away a persons personal right to religious freedom. No one said you can't talk about it, but I will fight you from legislating it.
Hmmmm... Secular laws against freedom of speech would be bad, but if Christians held absolute power, there wouldn't even be freedom of speech (as history has shown us).

I believe it was more to do with the regulations that the Canadian Government had just instituted on Marine vessels....
He chose to run under the less strict, and less prohibitively expensive standards of the International Maritime Organization.....
Many companies do that including our own oil companies, that is if they aren't funded by the government, in that case they fly the Maple Leaf with pride, because they have money to burn...lol |

I'm not scared, and if things even out with Quebec and Ontario, fine. And if things are really so bad, why not just break away? What I am afraid of is Canada becoming...
1) militarily (sp?) aggressive
2) Christian governed (abortion and gay marriage, and who knows what else)
3) losing our health care
But luckily it's a minority, so we'll sed how Harper turns out. |
