Mario Lemieux!
Now that's he has retired he joins the Liberal party and works on moving the Penguins to Quebec City, thus making the Province go completely Liberal, turning their back on the Bloc and all thoughts of seperatism |

Did anyone call Scott Brison a whoore? No, beause he is a man. Use words that aren't particularly degrading to the FEMALE gender and your arguments won't come across as sexist. |

Furthermore, I never said that she should not be critisized for her actions - I objected to the sexist way she is criticized. |

Go ahead and call him a whoore, I don't care. I don't even know who he is.
And don't tell me what words I can use and can't use. You don't get to decide that. I don't give a $#@$ how my words "come across to you", I never asked for your opinion. |

Yeah? Tough *#^@#. Who the hell gave you the right to decide what I say to criticize ANY politician, or the form in which I criticize them?
YOU said I called her a bimbo. Basically you're looking for and seeing sexism that isn't there. |

You didn't call her a bimbo. Bignate said she was Bimboish.
LOL. Who gave me the right to tell you that you're being sexist? This is an internet forum!! What the hell did you expect?
You seem to be over-reacting to my comments....did I strike a nerve, MOS? |

Well, you should look him up because it's relevant to the discussion we're having. |

Scott Brison is the eastern Tory turned Liberal, I believe he was PWGSC (Public Works) minister. If it matters any and if I recall correctly, he's openly gay.
Did he keep his seat? I hadn't noticed. |

If it's the Maritimes you know the incumbent is keeping the seat. |

Personally I think that she was quite bimboish.....would it make a difference if I was a female? I here women call other women bimbos all the time, I guess it is one of those double standards. As an aside, the word bimbo (from the Italian) came into English usage initially referring to a stupid man....but has recently come to mean only stupid women, unless specifically stating 'male bimbo' which shows that it has an equality about it...
Really though, her responses to the questions put to her by the reporter, made her seem like she didn't have a single thought in her head. She just repeated the same things over and over and smiled like an idiot. I stick with what I saidf: I think within the context of her responses in the interview....she came off as a bimbo. |

It sounds like we saw the same interview, or she has a definite style she is sticking to- the last time I saw her on tv she just kept using as many different ways to say 'no comment' as she could think of. I didn't think of her as bimbo at the time so much as a typical politician- relieved to be re-elected and happy to be in front of the camera and trying to say a lot about nothing while avoiding saying anything of substance that could come back to haunt her later.
I don't think that her gender should come into it either way- she has no qualities which should hold her up as a role-model for future generations aspiring to political office, but also there is nothing particularly to vilify her over. Yeah, she switched parties overnight and dumped her lover and former fellow party member in one fell swoop. Sneaky? Well, yeah- she's a politician.
Besides all that, insults are often gender specific.
That's language for you, and English is less gender specific in its insults than many others (and of course we all know that, right?).
So Roo, when people walk around calling you a bastard and a son of a bitch, that'll be a day for you to celebrate. |

He's also relevant to this discussion because he switched parties just like Belinda Stronach did. |

That would be what "Tory turned Liberal" means.
I mentioned he was a gay as an afterthought, I don't think it's relevant to this discussion, any more than he was Public Works minister.
Although now that I think of it, you can see the incentive/reward both Brison and Stronach received for crossing the floor- Cabinet positions. |
