I'm in Iloilo.
We decided we'd try to get a hotel room now before the carnival and get a sense of what is going on. The Carnival kicks off tomorrow night and goes until Sunday evening.
Hope its cool.. I don't know what to expect. Last weekend on our way to Boracay though, we passed through a Carnival between Kalibo and Boracay (each town has carnivals on different weekends it seems). It looked really cool and it was just a very tiny small little town! People dresssed up, dancing, drumming, and drinking.
Iloilo is the biggest city on Panay Island.. and apparently lots of celebrities come from Manila and such.. as do musicians.
We will see.. we will see.. |

I went to a festival in Romblon Town last year. It was a blast. Romblon is a few islands over from Boracay. Real nice little undiscovered place. |

Feels like everywhere in the Philippines!
Can't believe people are so afraid of this country.. when here, it feels so relaxed, friendly and just plain extremely normal. Plus English is everywhere.
Romblon is probably one of MANY places here that are way off the tourist trail. Even here in Iloilo, with this major festival/carnival going on.. its incredible how few foreigners are around.
Okay, I'm off to join in the carnival festivities and see what trouble I can get in once again.. music and drumming is everywhere this weekend. |
