There are always spirit-souls falling from the spiritual kingdom of God to the material universes, and others going back. At any time, three-fourths of the spirt-souls are in the spiritual realm - where there is infinite variegatedness and no darkness. Everything there is absolutely beautiful, and everyone is completely God conscious.

When , in the course of eternal time, a spirit-soul gets the idea of trying to enjoy independently of God, he "falls" to the world of relativity and is awarded a human form (of the 400,000 different sub-species of humans). Because the laws of nature (under the direction of God) are meant to be very strict and harsh, the living entity in the human form generates karma for every other living entity that he kills - even stepping on an ant. If his mentality is completely animalistic and no spiritual progress is made, he has to descend into the entire cycle of eight million other species - including micro-organisms with very little consciousness.

Although there is no facility for remembering or realizing God in lower forms of life, the Lord never abandons any living entity at even the lowest point and continues to dwell within the heart as the Supersoul witnessing all activities and patiently waiting for the living entity to automatically progress to the human form again and eventually back to the the original home in the spiritual kingdom of God. From the point of view of eternal time, millions of years spent wasting time seeking false pleasures in the material world is like a nano-second.

Intelligent persons utilize their human form wisely and avoid going to the various types of hell. One type of hellish existence is taking birth as animals inhumanely treated and slaughtered by humans. Other "hells" are various hellish planets including Mars and Saturn ( graphically described in the Vedas - some places do feature "lakes of fire" etc...) There are also heavenly planets, including Venus and Jupiter where the duration of life (10,000 human years) and level of sensual enjoyment is much higher than that found on Earth, but ultimately there still is death. If the spirit-soul in a heavenly body fails to make continued spiritual progress he falls back to Earth...to try again. (The spiritual path is described as "a razor's edge", and one has to be especially careful to avoid offenses to great souls...)

A land of sensual delight indeed.

Quote:
Astronomers refer to Venus as Earth's sister planet. Both are similar in size, mass, density and volume. Both formed about the same time and condensed out of the same nebula. However, during the last few years scientists have found that the kinship ends here. Venus is very different from the Earth. It has no oceans and is surrounded by a heavy atmosphere composed mainly of carbon dioxide with virtually no water vapor. Its clouds are composed of sulfuric acid droplets. At the surface, the atmospheric pressure is 92 times that of the Earth's at sea-level.

Venus is scorched with a surface temperature of about 482 C (900 F). This high temperature is primarily due to a runaway greenhouse effect caused by the heavy atmosphere of carbon dioxide. Sunlight passes through the atmosphere to heat the surface of the planet. Heat is radiated out, but is trapped by the dense atmosphere and not allowed to escape into space. This makes Venus hotter than Mercury.

To each their own, but frankly, I think that I'll pass on the extended Venusian holiday.

Dearest Rapier,

I have the deepest respect for you in many ways, you are I think a true subversive. Do the people who know you, know about your activities on this forum? Do you share your zelous religiosity with your friends? I suspect that you are a very strong person, who has carried a weighty and profound faith secretly over many years. I see you a little like the Jehovah's Witnesses Rapier, who have many peculiar notions, and who are at times quite bothersome, but are none the less, involved in some of the important struggles of our time (ie, smuggling Bibles into N.Korea). Pardon my insensitive remarks towards you, we are after all entitle to writhe under the horror of existence in our own particular ways.

Love,
Gorgias

Heavenly bodies are not the same as earthly bodies. They are more ethereal, on a more subtle plane of existence... We can't enter into the social scene on heavenly planets - we can't even perceive it with our present gross bodies and senses. Everything there is much finer...

It would seem to follow that we could see life on grosser hellish planets like Mars, but not necessarily. In order to endure hellish punishments, the spirit-soul has to take a particular type of subtle body that can suffer and endure all kinds of pain and torture - like being forced to jump off a cliff, apparently into a body of water, but it's really solid thick ice... The body shatters into many pieces on impact, but it somehow comes back together, and the denizen of hell is forced to repeatedly climb the mountain, jump and be smashed to bits - .until his one lifetime in that hell is up, and he takes birth on Earth again...)

Well thankyou sweet kind brother georias. For my part I admire your sanity and balanced logic, and your idea of a cruel violent God to be thought provoking, and interesting. I do hope you don't act on your beliefs, and I wish you well.

To the OP. I'm not sure this is verbatim, but here's the general gist.

One day the Lord Buddha was travelling when he was confronted by a man who had been shot in the back with an arrow.
"Lord Buddha," said the man "Why would somebody shoot me? Who would hate me so much me that they would shoot me? What kind of god would create a universe where such a good man like me would be shot?"
To which Lord Buddha replied:
"Jesus Christ, kid, you've got an arrow stuck in your back! Don't you have anything more important to worry about?"

LMAO

Did you know....... Chuck Norris sold his soul to the devil for his rugged good looks and unparalleled martial arts ability. Shortly after the transaction was finalized, Chuck roundhouse kicked the devil in the face and took his soul back. The devil, who appreciates irony, couldnt stay mad and admitted he should have seen it coming. They now play poker every second Wednesday of the month.

Chuck Norris is a tough dude, but I don't think he has much insight into why there's a universe... Some UFO believers have these scattered views:

Astronomers are finding that the universe is apparently crowded with planets. ... There are billions of stars, more than the grains of sand at the sea shore, and these ... calculations indicate a large majority of stars have planets orbiting them.

... The Dakes Annotated Reference Bible states: In the beginning God created the Heaven and the Earth. Heaven is a material planet with temples, homes, cities, animals, trees, marriage, musical instruments, rain and fire. It is God's dwelling place with mansions, angels, and armies.

It seems reasonable an advanced form of extraterrestrial intelligence could have visited our planet, perhaps on its way to exploring or even populating the whole galaxy... According to scriptures fifty men from Earth have been taken to heaven and have lived there in natural bodies. Some notable ones include Enoch and Elijah. The alien visitors usually referred to as angels or lords, claim to be sent by God the supreme being. They declare God even created Homo Sapiens. Christianity claims God placed his son on Earth to instruct us in a better way to live. Some of Jesus' last words were, "In my Father's house there are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. I will come again!" ... The ancient Indian Vedic texts refer to vimanas or craft that match our descriptions of UFOs. Perhaps the visitors attempt to direct our beliefs so we can join other worlds in peace...

Thus, what's the point?

Well..I think the world is divided into two planes of existence, the spiritual and the physical. Success in this world pertains to obeying the laws of the physical- thus your life can be deemed rich if you have competed well enough in the jungle to own several mercs and your own company, and have a supermodel for a wife and a condo in antigua: you have succeeded in the temporary physical world by exploiting others, outcompeting the opposition, and spreading your DNA widely.

But the spiritual demands you sacrifice these interests in order to pursue what is eternal. Thus someone without all mod cons who's priority in life is to store up riches in heaven, may be deemed to have an empty existence. "She's a great friendly person but she does drive a beat up volvo and give half her money to the beggars in the town square".

Um... OK. Thanks for pointing out the obvious, but I don't see how it applies to my point.

Not very good with the statistics I see. First, count to 1 billion to see just how big a number that is. Then do it a couple thousand times more. Get back to us when finished Wink

I should have made it clearer (by using quotation marks...) that everything after my statement "Some UFO believers have these scattered views:" was quoted from the link given at the end of the post. (My own scattered views are somewhat different... Cool )

The Vedas explain how progenitors populated the universe, but I won't bore anyone with the details...

Since we are in Korea, let's see what deep insights that great "spiritual leader" Rev. Sun Myung Moon has for us:

"When you were young, did you ever taste the dried mucus from your nose? Does it taste sweet or salty? It's salty, right? Since you can answer, you must have tasted it! Why did you not feel that it was dirty? It is because it was part of your body. Reverend Moon has figured out something that no one in the world knew..."

What would it mean for there to be nothing? If one were able observe a universe of nothing what would it look like? You could argue that you couldn't observe it by definition: there being nothing means there would be no place or no point from which to observe. Space itself would not exist. However, the common sense answer is that the universe would consist of empty space.

NO, I didn't ask why there is matter and energy, I asked why there is existence at all. Of course I don't expect you to have the answer... but you've misinterpreted my question.
