Royal Regiment, Gagetown . . . Just joking it was a hypothetical question; I never actually said that I was in the Canadian Army. I like to keep my limbs attached thank you. |

Heh, heh. Cantankerous aren't we? If you'll note I didn't say I was in the Canadian army, my question was "Would it scare you if I said I was in the Canadian Army?" Not the "if I said" which would imply a statement, not a question. As to BS'ing you I could have easily come up with a regiment and deployment history, but lying is not a good habit. As for serving, I've never had the privilege, but some of my friends have (Royal Regiment, Royal Canadian Horse Artillery, Toronto Scottish) so I may know a little more than you suspect about this area. As for being bureaucratic fartcatcher with the DND in NATO, my next question would be - did you see a lot of combat in Brussels? You seem pretty aggressive for a Canadian. |

I don't suffer fools lightly, which means I seem a lot angrier than I really am when I post here.
BS is BS and you have enough to spare. You don't 'get' what the issue is here and you try pass yourself off as someone you're not in the hopes that it might give your opinion some credibility.
Sorry it didn't work out for you.
Oh, you have friends? I have to say that really comes as a surprise to me.
Go on and show your friends in the army this thread and listen to what they have to say about it. I'm willing to bet they'll understand issue, unlike yourself.

Obviously you don't keep up with the news, asshole. We just lost a "bureaucratic fartcatcher" last week: Glyn Berry

Now, now, my good man. If I was trying to pass myself of as a soldier, I would have ID'ed myself as such and I said I was a soldier. The question was "Would it scare [sic] if I said that I was an officer in the Canadian Army?" Your reply was yes. Again the operative word is "if." I never claimed to be a member. English is such a precise language and I doubt that anyone would be able to enlighten you in any language, let alone English.

What a poor style of argumentation, ad hominen attacks mixed with misrepresenation. Bother my buddies. BWAHHAHA! I already know what they think of DND bureaucrats . . . this will only confirm it. Interesting career trajectory: 1990 DND . . . now SK teaching English? Not only are you a walking candidate for heart attack you are an idiot; the kind of internant idiot who scurries from village to village ensuring they have idiot, just in case the last one died off. Seeing as you don't suffer fools lightly, I can only assume much of your frustration is really directed at yourself.
Have a nice evening. |

You are wrong on so many counts I wouldn't even know where to begin so instead I'll just say: Piss off and don't let the door hit your ass on the way out. As for me, it's quitting time so I'm heading out for dinner. |

A convoy is a convoy, moving or stationary. You're also right in saying that passing looks very much like approaching as one must, by definition, approach in order to pass.
As far as not being aware of any signals, this is not uncommon; many drivers simply zone out.
The poor attitude I was referring to was not that of the Canadian officials who, understandably, have a right to be angry about the incident, but that of the gallery of usual suspects we find on this board willing to use this event as a springboard for yet another one of their cheap shots against America. |

I am sorry to hear about Glyn Berry, but he was DFAIT not DND. Given he left a UN posting to work in Afghanistan, it's obvious he isn't a fartcatcher. That being said, when was the last time a civilian member of DND died in action?
Enjoy your breakfast. You should get your sleep instead of staying up all night posting. |

I'll second Leslie here.
Accidents and outrageous things happen in war, especially those events falling under the phrase "friendly fire." In my experience, "malice" is not usually as good an explanation as "human error" or perhaps "negligence" -- that is, somebody screwed up and no one can be happy about it.
We won't ever eliminate negligence in human affairs, neither in war nor in peace. If you are in or anywhere near a war zone, my advice is simply "deal with it." So if you are there, voluntarily or not, you accept a certain amount of risk, Canadian diplomats or not.
So these things are going to continue to happen in Iraq, and into the future.
And, finally, that there are conflicting accounts of the incident is not surprising in the least. That is the major problem in relying on witness testimony to form an impression about something: peoples' memories are imperfect. Does someone have comprehensive audio-video coverage of this? No? Then this is no more reliable than "a he said/she said" dispute, and that the Canadian version paints the U.S. as a wild aggressor does not come as a surprise either.
I read some of this thread and scanned through the rest. Frankly, there is nothing new here and the entire U.S.-Canadian relations bickering is getting to be a tedious "argument." |

Actually its two Canadians bickering and not very politely either; apparently I'm not toeing the party line. It was an accident move on, more important things to worry. |

Again, I haven't read (or should I say recall) anywhere in this forum where the actions of individual rank and file U.S. military personnel have come under fire from posters on this forum. I. |
Really? What about that pilot who bombed the Canadians?
What about those soldiers who ran over those two girls?
What about the numberous posters who have posted here in the past complaining about G.I's?
What about that soldier who shot that wounded insurgent?
What about that Iraqi prison A.G?
There have been numberous cases of "where the actions of individual rank and file U.S. military personnel have come under fire from posters on this forum."
Sometimes it is justified and sometimes it is not. |

[You don't need Canadians to do that. You have a government, a military and about half of your population that do a pretty good job of proving to the world your incompetence.
(1) I haven't read anywhere in this forum where Canadians have said such things about the U.S. military, esp. about its rank and file members.
What is clear, is that the U.S. military and government is famous for providing misleading information. Not that there was much trust before, there's even less now. |
(1) You aren't exactly praising the military rank and file here. |

Oh, so you know what DFAIT is? I'm somewhat impressed, only because I had such low expectations of your knowledge.
I've never worked for DND except for a brief period when OCIPEP reported to DND.
You might want to find out what the Cdn delegation to NATO is before shooting your mouth off.
