I am pretty sure all that flashing and stuff has brainwashed me into assassinating someone when I hear a certain sound |

propaganda at its best- short, simple, repetitive.
though I doubt the work was commissioned by North Korean's leader
Nina Simone's song is perfect with Yong Hae's rythmic messages. |

HapKi, get a clue! You are not being put on.
It's satire. Very camp.
Without soiling the artwork with interpretation, suffice it to say it's in the tradition of Erasmus, Swift, Dryden, even Twain and Huxley.
There must be some fellow humanities grads around here! |

... you really don't get it.
Look at one of the artist's other works, the one about Samuel Beckett if that isn't an obvious enough hint:
http://www.yhchang.com/BECKETTS_BOUNCE.html
(Warning: the language gets pretty sexually explicit, though only in a descriptive way, and its portrayal of Beckett needn't be taken as fact. But if you wanna think it's a journalistic report of a trip to a whorehouse, then go ahead.) |

change the title of the thread to 'tedious' and you'd be much nearer the mark. |

I don't think you get my point, VanIslander. By stating she was commissioned by Kim Jung Il, along with the repetive, simple, short presentation style, her piece (purposely, in my opinion) takes on the role of propaganda, and thus brings up the art/propaganda debate. Juxtaposed with such an absurd (yet well-written enough to be engaging) message as "eating pu**y is an universal freedom...North Korean men do it...North Korean women demand it...thus communism is superior (or whatever)" and her statement becomes clearer. Medium is the message, and I can sell you anything.
The Beckett piece, without the propagandic undertones, left me dissapointed and with a headache, and would have been better left to book prose form. |

YHCHANG is a pioneer artist. I think the design is simple but effective. Better to use Korean music, but I guess she wants to be funky!
It;s a shame that she doesn't do her own music. I have her web page as a bookmark. It's interesting stuff.
The best one is 'Samsung wants you too come'! Brilliant. |
