Hi,

I am planning on going to China to visit and possibly line up a job once over there. Can I just show up and get a visa while in the airport. I am Canadian and really don't know the whole process. Do I have to do anything before going to China?

If you are going to Taiwan, Macau or Hong Kong for tourism - then generally no visa will be needed for stays of 90 days or less.

If you are going to mainland China for any purpose, then a visa WILL be needed. You won't be allowed on the plane without one.

A single-entry "L" type tourist visa can be purchased in Seoul. Most travel agents will do it for about 50,000\. It is valid for a 30 day stay in the PRC, must be used within 3 months and will take about 4 days to issue.

A work visa for mainland China can sometimes be issued inside China for certain provinces. But there are local variations. It involves a HIV test, medical test, approval from the Ministry of Labor and forms to be filled out by you and your employer. It can take several weeks to issue.
